Cool little effect I accidently created using the zoom blur

Postby tiny » Mon Jul 27, 2009 1:17 pm

So I was making this little video in PE4 as part of a larger presentation for my public relations class when I accidentally created this neat effect.

http://www.vimeo.com/5530838 - Just watch the first few opening seconds, you will see the logo do this cool spotlight effect.

Essentially all I did was apply the zoom blur effect to the logo, then changed it's position over time to create this sweeping effect. I know it seems basic, but I had no idea you could do this, and thought I would pass along my accident to others who hadn't a clue.
I wish I were creative enough to write something witty here.

It's a great effect Tiny, but my own attempts are missing something.

Apply Zoom Blur.
Change position over time.

Must be more to it than that. All I get is a zoom blurred image that moves across the screen, which of course is what one would expect when following the above steps. Can you elaborate please?

Hrmmm, yeah you're probably right. It's been a few days. I believe that I also adjusted the amount of blur over time so that when the blur was right over my graphic, there was very little at all. Also, I think the contrast of color and simplicity of my graphic helps with the overall affect.

You can do it all using the zoom blur properties.

The default zoom stength is too high, lower it until you get the amount of blur you want -- try 25 or less. Then, keyframe the sweep using the center property. If you wish, you can lower the blend amount to let more of the original image show through.

Thanks Bob. I'll try that later. It is a pretty neat effect.
