Steadicams on a budget

Postby Steve Grisetti » Mon Jul 20, 2009 11:30 am

Build your own Steadicam for $14?

Buy it pre-assembled for under $40?

I might have to try this -- especially if the results look anything like this video!

Steve,

I built one of these and made it out of PVC to keep it lighter. Depending on the weight of your camera is how heavy the counter weight will be. I found that after a while the whole thing became very heavy. The trick I learned is to use a monopod and then just turn the camera upside down with the monopod for the low shots.

IMO what I have practiced at, is to use my elbow as the shock absorber and practice on my arm movements. That way I can get pretty close to the steadycam. Mixed with mercalli I but you would not know the difference.
