Prodad Mercalli image stabilization on sale

Postby Doreen L. » Tue Aug 19, 2008 8:28 am

If you're in the market for a good image stabiler plug in, Mercalli is on sale at Digital Juice for 50% off - $59.50 for a download version.

Even though I have 3D2 Steadymove, I went ahead and purchased Mercalli because you have a lot more control, it's so much faster and it doesn't bog down your computer. I also think the final result is a bit better.

Yes, there was a thread posted earlier. It is a great price, I bought it and have been using it on high definition work. It is very fast as you say and works very well.
However, it is a painful process to activate it... first you need the activation code which comes when you get the download link and then when you have installed it you need to email them to get an activation executable file otherwise it is timelimited and will put a red cross on the rendered file after the time period has expired.

Well the activation executable file is machine specific. To activate it on another machine you would need to get another activation file which involves emailing them. Not sure if it is "allowed to have it on two machines. Best to contact them and find out at info@prodad.de

Ok, thanks. I will send them an email first, or try to figure out how I could use it effectively on only one machine.

Ooops. I didn't realize it had been posted before. :-D

I totally agree with you Paul on the activation. It is a real pain in the butt. And don't use a comcast email address because it seems that Comcast blocks emails from Prodad. It took two days for me to get the final activation code from Prodad. At least, in the meantime, I was able to use the program.

Thanks for all of the info and advanced warnings about activation Paul and Doreen.
I'm sure that the quality of the product and the price make the issues worth going through.

Despite the activation hurdles, it's DEFINITELY worth the price at $59.95. That being said, it's not a miracle worker... it can sometimes make the background appear wobbly as it stabilizes the foreground (although that itself could be used as a cool visual effect) and it takes some experimenting to find the right settings for a given clip, because there are so many variables that can be controlled. It does utilize all 4 cores of my CPU at 100%, so it is very well-optimized for multi-core PCs, and depending on the degree of stabilization needed it can process as fast as 130-140 frames per second.

It does require mastery. But that's the fun part for me.
