Page turning Project

Postby Jay » Fri Aug 15, 2008 12:03 pm

I need some help in smoothing out some kinks in my page turning project. When viewing with PE4 it looks find but maybe I’ve been looking at it to long and need some fresh eyes. Did the wmv format make it lose sink and change the sizing? Here is the link to the my gallery.

Hi Jay,
If you export an AVI file (File/Export/Movie) does it look the same as the WMV?
The WMV file shows the various pages becoming disjointed from the book, but it sounds like that isn't happening when you preview the project.

Paul and Chuck
Thanks, Just formatted to avi and it looks good, just a few kinks. I think I can work them out. The big thing is I want to email this sample
to the Tall ships people thats putting on the show for review but the file zipped is 350Mb.. Way to big. I don't have time to cut a dvd to send Snell mail and if the wmv format changes things its not worth watching. What do you think?

Jay, do you know how to FTP?

I can give you access to upload the file to our server for download.

Ron
I have never worked with FTP. I know a little of what it dose. Will I or the other computer need software to transfer that large file of 350Mb?
I do know the other party that will receive the file has a web site. I appreciate you taking an interest in my problem. I am willing to learn and try any thing new.

You need an ftp client, pretty easy to use though.
I use CoreFTP Lite, it is free and works very well.
http://www.coreftp.com

Once installed you only have to set up a FTP site to connect to.
Host: the server URL or IP address
User: Provided by the host
Password: also provided by the host.

Once that is all set up you simply press connect and the ftp server will make whatever folders available that you have rights to access.
You then browse to the file(s) on your computer, select the ones you want to upload and press the upload button, then you wait for the upload to complete and disconnect.

You might want to try a high quality FLV or a MOV file, maybe even a larger format WMV might look better.

If you want to give FTP a go, say the word and I'll PM the credentials. You'll simply input the 3 pieces of login info and the rest is easy - goes right to your own folder.

Jay, just looked at the sample that you posted in the gallery. Did you get the kinks ironed out? Looks like there were some problems with the anchor point on some pages. I had similar problems when I first used the technique - it was caused by my image editing in Photoshop.

The solution was to drag the required images layers onto the page image, merge down the layers then save the page. If I went back and re-edited the page the problem arose.

On importing into Premiere Elements all that was then required was adjusting the page size and position.

John is correct about the anchor point. In Photoshop, the right hand page's center should be the far left center and for the left hand page should far right center. Wish you could change the anchor point for swivel in PE, would make things a lot easier.

DOn't know if you got this solved but I've always had the same problem with page turns and a few other effect that lose their placement when export to WMV. SOmeone did tell you to export to AVI which is correct but then you can make a new project (or if you have PRO just import into the project as a new sequence). NOw when you export this movie (AVI) as a WMV you will find the page turning works properly.

FOr sending large file, I use YOusendit.com. Up to 100MB on the free version.
Happy Editing,

Beth

I have to apologize to all of you for not getting back to you sooner but I have been out of town and no computer. I solve my problem by cutting a DVD of the sample and a friend hand carried it to the people that needed to see it.
I am still working on the page turning project and just captured the last of the video to finish it with.
When I have the time I will try all of your suggestions to solve the wmv and avi formatting problems and I will be asking more questions on page turning. I will tell you how I did it and maybe you guys can tell me where I went wrong, because it sounds like “you’ve been there, done that” before.
Again, Thanks to all of you. I really appreciate all of your help and if there was a way to send a 20 minute DVD of the Tall Ships. I would send it to each of you for critiquing.
