Problems downloading video

Postby skip » Tue Oct 30, 2007 10:02 am

I'm having problems downloading a video to Photoshop Elements 5.0 from a Canon S3 camera. I have four videos on the memory stick, number 3 is the one that won't download. Since number 4 is OK, I'm assuming the camera itself is OK. I can view the video on the camera. It's about eight minutes long, approximate size 1 G.

Photoshop Elements will download the other three videos. When it tries to download video number 3, it displays an error message to the effect that something is wrong with the camera, check the batteries. I've tried opening the video directly in Windows Movie Maker but WMM displays a message that the file type is not supported. When I try to copy the file directly from the camera to the hard drive using Windows Explorer, the copied file size is 0 G.

Do I have any hope?

Maybe you can salvage the video. See this post:

You could try capturing the video in real time as you are playing it back. Do you have S-Video out or RCA jacks on the Canon?

Thanks RJ.

I downloaded a software package per your attached link and will give it a try once I purchase a card reader. Hopefully, that will solve my problem.

The camera does come with a cable (mini to RCA) used to view the videos/pix on TV. Are you recommending connecting the camera to the TV and recording the problem video to DVD, and then using the camera to create a new video by recording the DVD as it plays on the TV?

I was thinking more along the lines of hooking up to a DVD recorder or VCR.
