Irritating & distracting flicker from still photos in PE4

Talk about slideshow creation, whether it's with Premiere and/or Photoshop Elements or a third party helper application.

Irritating & distracting flicker from still photos in PE4

Postby silved2 » Tue May 13, 2008 2:53 pm

Does anyone have experience reducing the irritating & distracting flicker from still photos in PE4? My whole show is 350 stills, downrezzed to 1000x750, and imported from Photoshop Elements 6. I did apply the NTSC filter in the PSE6 also. 80% of the images are flickering on the TV when viewed from the DVD created by PE4. Thank you for considering my question.

This is one of those things that I hope someday Adobe makes a default setting.

Right-click on each photo and select Field Option, Flicker Removal. This de-interlaces the picture and gets rid of the jiggly-ness.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet found a way to apply this setting to an entire slideshow at once.

Thank you Steve for your instant response. Does this de-interlacing do anything to the quality? Is the flickering reduced if I discontinue the use of pan and zooms?

Flicker Removal will not reduce the quality of the photo in the slightest.

And panning and zooming doesn't change how much the photos flicker.

Steve,
What's the difference in the Field options choices between Flicker Removal and Always Deinterlace?

Good question!

According to Adobe's Help file, De-Interlace duplicates every other horizontal field while Flicker Removal blurs the pairs together.

The effect is going to be similar regardless.
