Great place you have here

Glad I found the website. Very impressed so far. Not sure how I can update my profile, but I run a website that promotes backyard poultry keeping in Australia. http://www.backyardpoultry.com (poultry is an addictive hobby) I plan to make chook promotional movies (chook is an Australian word for "chicken"). I am very new to the world of moving pictures, but have been doing still photos for a while, and keen to learn :-D .

I love seeing what a diverse variety of people we attract here!

Cool website, chooks! We'd love to hear more about you and your work and about some of the video work you do or are planning to do.

We're also well represented in Australia. Where do you live? You might have a Muvipix neighbor!

Welcome aboard!

Well, think of Muvipix as your personal Sherpa. Spend some time here reading and asking questions, and you'll be halfway to the top in no time!

Personal Sherpa, like that! Sounds like a good ad to the slogan. Trivia: What is Mt. Everest called in Nepal? A student from Nepal gave me a Tshirt with the name and a cool graphic.

You got me curious so I had to look it up, Cheryl.

I guess it never dawned on me that the name "Everest" had to be an English name for the place. (Actually named after the Welsh surveyor who mapped the area when it was a British colony.)

But then again I still have trouble remembering that Calcutta is now Kolkata, Peking is now Beijing and Burma is now Myanmar.

Finally, I stumped Steve! If not, my follow up question would have been counting to 10 in Nepalese and if you gave up to say the Nepalese word for uncle. I'll post a pic of the Tshirt later.

What amazes me is that the news casters still say Bombay when it has been Mumbai since the 1990's.

Not to mention all the countries whose political boundarys have changed as well as the name. I find I remember what I learned in school as a child and have to translate in my mind to the current names. I find it interesting to see the geographic place names in the original language of the country.

So, how about the other side of the mountain. Can you find the name of Mt. Everest in Tibet?

Haven't hosted any students from Tibet  , so I am stumped.
