A place to introduce and tell a little about yourself.

Hi from Nuenen in the Netherlands

Postby Jan Laros » Sun Dec 09, 2007 4:10 pm

My name is Jan Laros. I live in Nuenen in te Netherlands. Nuenen is a small village in the South not far from the Belgian border.
I am 66 years old and retired some 8 years ago. Most of my working time I spend with Philips (Norelco) where I was employed in various product/marketing functions in broadcastvideorecording and communication recorders. I did some repair work on Philips videorecorders in the mid-sixties.

As many of my age I started with double 8 mm movie film back in te seventies. In 1990 I got my first camcorder, a JVC c-format S-VHS and did some editing with Ulead in mjpeg format. Via Adobe Premiere 5.1, 6.0 and Pinnacle Studio 8 and 9 I migrated to Premiere Elements.

Most of my videowork is from birthdayparties, sightseeing trips, holidays etc. For next year we plan a repeat visit to the Grand Canyon, the National Parks in Utah and Yelowstone NP in the USA.

I am shooting these days in HDV with my Sony HC1 camcorder and edting with PE3 and since some weeks PE4. As an ex-engineer i am very excited about the transformation to HDV.
I hope to learn from others about these changes that are happening right now.

Welcome to Muvipix, Jan!

Your trip to the U.S. next year sounds great. I hope you have planned to make lot of time available. All of those sites are wonderful and you could easily spend an entire holiday at each. If you will be visiting Canyonlands or Arches, Mesa Verde isn't that far away and is interesting too.

If you plan on being in Utah you absolutely must travel across Southern Utah. I drive it every year. Going from west to east starting at Interstate 15 and State route 9, travel east on 9 to route 89. Go north on 89 to route 12. Go east on 12 to route 24 and continue to route 95. Take 95 all the way to Blanding Utah. If you're traveling east to west, just drive the route backwards. On one one trip I took over 1000 photos driving this route one way. You will not regret it.
