I'm brand new to the Muvipix site (as of about a week and a half ago) and have been thoroughly enjoying reading the forums and learning new techniques.

I haven't been making videos for very long... a little over a year or so... and initially started as something fun to do with my daughter (then 7, now 9). We first did a stop-action movie with her scooting around the living room kneeling on a pillow. We've done a few more since then, all of which have been fun experiences (and learning experiences!).

I'm really low budget, though I did get nice lighting equipment from eBay, which makes a big difference. My camera(s) however, consist of a Kodak Zi8, a Kodak PlaySport (same camera as the Zi8... just waterproof), and my Panasonic Lumix (mostly for stills, but it does video at 720p). I've been really happy with the quality of the video they produce, but I have to keep it simple... no manual focus tricks, minimal control over white balance, etc.

That said, I look forward to sharing my videos with you, hearing feedback, learning new techniques, and seeing more of the wonderful creations that get posted here!

Cheers!

Great to have you aboard, Dan! We're glad to have you a part of our community!

Have you found a video editing app that can work well with the video from those cameras? Premiere Elements generally has problems with video from still cameras -- but there is the promise that it will be able much more versatile in the next generation or so.

Though if you've found a way to edit them, that's sort of a non-issue.

I was using a trial version of Premiere Pro and After Effects, but I think they would currently be overkill (feature-wise and price-wise) for what is currently just a fun hobby. I purchased Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements and they've been working great.

The Panasonic Lumix shoots video in AVCHD format and Premiere Elements seems to deal with the format, though it's a bit jerky unless I pre-render it. I haven't used that format much since I started using Elements. The Kodak cameras save the footage in .mov format, which has worked great for editing.

I'll put some videos in the Gallery for folks to check out. :-)

Thanks for the welcome!
