Anyone Interested In LIVE Online Training Seminars?

Postby Chuck Engels » Wed Feb 27, 2008 2:01 pm

Hi Everyone,

We are thinking about holding some LIVE online training sessions. We would use something like GoToMeeting, you would pay a fee of $10 - $20 (maybe less for subscribers) to attend.
We would have specific topics and/or a Question and Answer session where you could ask questions about different features or functions in Premiere Elements. Then we would show you how to use them while you watch live on your computer screen :)

Sessions would cover a wide range of topics. There would be a maximum of 15 participants in each session. There could be multiple sessions for the same topic. There would always be a Q&A at the end. Seminars would last anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes.

Anyone doing the actual presentation/training would be compensated for their time, if any Moderators would be interested in participating on that level we would welcome the help.

We are trying to gauge interest so let us know what you think. If you have any suggestions or recommendations please let us know that too.

Hi Chuck,

Yes, a very good & interesting idea and one that I would be happy to learn from!
I voted for "Yes if the price is right " but your prices have been very fair so far, and you get so much for your money!

Looking forward to seeing how this develops :)

Cheers,
Lee

I like the idea in principle, but how would you manage the time differences when it is a live event? Are you thinking about offering this on weekends?

Thanks for bringing this up again Gerlinde :)

The events could be held multiple times in a day, one for Eastern, one for Central and another for Pacific time.
Or we could hold it at a good time for all time zones, maybe 3pm Eastern on a Saturday.
It would depend on the number of people that would sign up.

Then there are the folks overseas to consider as well, probably a special on just for our European friends, maybe Australia too.
There is lots to consider but the possibility is there.

GoToMeeting and WebEx are two great means of doing this, and the rates are very reasonable. GoToMeeting will let you have unlimited meetings with up to 10 people for around $350 per year. That will connect everyone to a single PC to watch the demonstation or training session. Then everyone only needs to call into a central phone to hear the audio portion, pretty cool. We use this at work all the time, it's great for everyone.

Thoughts are that it would be free to subscribers, non-subscribers would pay a small fee to attend. Although the first one would probably be free to everyone just to get a feel for how it will work.

Would there be a way to save the session? I love watching live tutorials but sometimes it is nice to be able to rewind and watch it several times to actually understand it.
Go out and make it a great day. The choice is yours!

Usually the sessions are recorded and made available for viewing at anytime.
We would have to figure out exactly how that works but we could then post the recorded session in with the tutorials or something.

Chuck, that sounds great! Would we also be able to see our class mates? :-

Yes, the control and active screen can be passed to anyone attending the session.
So if someone wanted to show us something on their screen we could see that also.

You would hear each other speak but you would not be able to see each other.
Video conferencing is a whole different thing and requires everyone to have a web cam and sessions cost a lot more.
