Gallery file won't open

Postby momoffduty » Mon Mar 19, 2007 10:16 am

A friend with an Apple laptop w/satellite could not open my file in the Gallery. A few others said they could not either, not sure what int. connection they have.

I did send the correct link, the URL.

That's one of the reasons I like Quicktime. Most PC users have that on their PC because of iTunes anyway.

You could always put Quicktime versions up as well if you want to stick with the WMV Cheryl.

You make a wise point, Ed.

But since 97% of the world runs on PCs and that 3% of the world that runs on Macs keeps telling us what losers we are, I think Macs should learn to speak PC rather than PCs learning to speak Mac.

It's funny, most of the PC art related site users seem to be MAC. With video sites, most people under the age of 25 seem to be using MAC; at least on the sites I participate on.

I guess those advertisements are working for Apple.

I think it has a lot to do with what is available at school. Apple has donated 1000's (maybe millions) of MACs to schools, that is all the kids know and use.

My nephew is a huge video hobbiest, he is a senior in high school. At school he has a MAC and at home a PC, a family PC that everyone uses. He does all his video work at school on the MAC because he couldn't afford to have the same setup at home, MAC or PC.

I think the donation of all the computers to middle and high schools was a great idea. These kids are starting to get into college now and they will be buying MACs not PCs. Over the next 5 - 10 years I would bet you will see a huge change in the numbers between MAC and PC.

We had a drug dealer at my high school who used to do the same thing!

If I use Quicktime, should I first check for updates?

Funny banter guys

My daughter's HS is a small town school, usually no problems. But, the other day they locked the school down for 2 hours. Found a couple of bullets in hallway. First thought was that someone from the trap-shoot team dropped them. Wrong ammo. They caught the kid, waiting to hear the rest of the story. Guess no school is 100% safe.

If you export as H.264, then those who open it will have to have the latest version of Quicktime (7 I think). H.263 and under the older versions will still work. I would use H.264 because it's better quality and smaller file sizes.

A bullet, that's nothing. When I was in High School the police would bring dogs in 2-3 time a month. But that was a different era.

I'm not familiar with WMP for MAC, but I would think that that would be the best option. And I'm just saying that because of the ease, quality (and now versatility) of the wmv file format.

Actually, Microsoft is not going to support WMP for MAC anymore. They want you to use flip4mac now.

That's interesting!

I saw a reference to Flip on the FireFox site (where it was offered as an alternative to WMP), but I didn't realize even Microsoft was recommending it.

Smart move by Microsoft. Now they can blame someone else when a Mac can't read WMVs!

Back to this giveaway thing. The original giveaway, in the dark ages of computing history, was Unix. It was given to any college/school/university that wanted it. I think that the theory was that as the graduates started their working lives they would want to continue to use the opsys thet they had become used to so it (Unix) would migrate into the business environment.

That one really worked didn't it?

Problem was that because Unix was open code everyone and his dog created extensions and mods for the base system so hybrids proliferated like ....well you tell me (rabbits?).

Maybe the MAC will fare better?
