Back To The Smokies, Part 1

Postby Dave McElderry » Fri Jul 02, 2021 2:34 pm

Our recent trip to the Smokies. A laid-back look at some of the mountains' special treats. Flora and some fauna. The drive to and on Heintooga Round Bottom Road was very special for us - 28 miles very lightly traveled in the heart of the wilderness, 14 of which is one-way gravel/dirt. It's slow going (often 5mph), but was the 4 wheel equivalent of back country hiking, for someone who can't hike anymore. If you know what kind of bird was crossing the road at 5:33 please let me know. It didn't seem concerned about us and took its time getting to its destination. Part 2 to come.

We have a bird here in Oregon similar to that one. A Chucker maybe.

Here's a photo of a Chucker that looks close.

It does look similar, but according to Wikipedia it’s limited to the western US states.

Nice job Dave. What a great place to film. I especially like the music as it gave an ethereal feeling to it. Well done

Thanks guys. I enjoy sharing one of the places we love the most. If anyone has the opportunity to spend some time there I highly recommend it. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are an acquired taste, and we personally don't spend much time there, but to each his own. There's lots to see in the mountains themselves.
