The River

We rented a cabin last Sept. on the Meramec river in Southern MO. There are several state parks nearby we visited and an old mill. Afternoons spent on a private gravel bar by the cabin. The good thing about going in September is that the crowds are gone. We had the mill park to ourselves and the care taker. For a few of the river shots I sat in the river with the camera on a gorilla pod. My husband thought I was nuts, but I was careful. The only thing was I couldn't get up and hold on to the camera too. The rocks were slippery!

Shot on a Fuji XT-4 in 4k. Normally I have used my Fuji for photos only. I had a used XT-2 before this model. The video aspect is supposed to be better than previous versions. They changed the screen swivel and I liked the old style better. This was a learning process using it for video.

Wow Mom I am impressed. You seem to be constantly upping your game and this video is a great example of that. Very nicely done. The overlapping videos were a nice touch and help add to the presentation. The movement of the river also made a good backdrop. Also, good choice on the music as it really fit will with the presentation. Very enjoyable.

It took me a moment to realize some of the shots were overlays but all so nicely done. In that first shot I thought you were using a dome to get that above and below water look. Looks like that camera worked out well too. That music makes it so dramatic. cool

Thanks Sidd! Interesting to think it was a dome shot at first. I bought a fish bowl to use with my GoPro for that kind of shot. Haven't tried it yet. I wasn't sure how I was going to present the footage because of itself isn't all that spectacular. Sat on it for months and just started to playing with the blend modes and crops.

Thanks Steve! Very peaceful place. The cabin we rented had a private gravel bar that was nice to sit every afternoon. There are a few other houses on the private lane that share that spot on the river. September was a peaceful time to go with no crowds. We may make another trip this spring.

What a cool idea for an edit. I don't recall ever seeing anything quite like it in non-pro production. Loved it. It looks more like something you would have done in After Effects.

Chuck, yes an "art video" Sorta like our memories where we see bits and pieces.

Dave, it did cross my mind to use AE. Now that I have the subscription to Pr Pro it does have blend modes. The crop feature has edge feather in the effect. I did figure out that if I rotated the video to be level that the crop would be crooked. The fix was to precomp the video and then crop the precomp in the main comp. PrPro has an Ultra key that works great with lots of features and can use it more than once on the same clip. PrPro is so much better than my old bought version that it has a lot of AE effects. I also like the color correction in PrPro with the presets that you can tweak. Going from a 5year old version to the newest took me awhile to see what's new. It does seem to miss the rate speed tool is not there anymore. You could use time-remapping, but I used the rate speed tool often in the old version.

I haven't checked Vimeo in a very long time Cheryl. The folks I was mostly communicating with all left. It was a fun site, but now it seems to be more for people with actual video editing skills - like you!

Haven't brewed much the last several years. My brew buddies all retired and moved away. I did brew a Citra session IPA this past October that the kids liked a lot. I'll do another brew this spring, and maybe even do a video of it.
