Marblehead Lighthouse

Postby Dave McElderry » Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:54 pm

We've been doing our best to stay safe but get out regularly in wide open spaces. Took a drive up to Lake Erie this week and played around with a new gimbal. Here's a short vid of our stop at the Marblehead lighthouse.

Dave that was cool. I swear by gimbals. They are a must have for me. What gimbal did you end up using? I have the smooth Q that I like a lot. I am looking for a DLSR gimbal for heaver loads.

Decided on a Movi Cinema Robot, Sidd. Sure does smooth out these shaky old hands of mine. Good alternative to carrying around a tripod, or monopod. Got it at 25% off, which did help the pocketbook.

Very cool Dave. I have never used a Movi but it looks like a real quality product. I record with the Filmic Pro app and I really like the quality of the shots recorded mixed with a gimbal. Now if I record without a gimbal I really dislike end end result. I have also been messing around with a Ulanzi anamorphic lens smartphone and really like the footage. But the stuff you posted looks really smooth. You are better at the up and down pan than I am. Must be the Movi has a slower pan.

Using Filmic Pro too Sidd. I don’t have anything to compare to, but the Filmic Pro integrates with the Movi and there are settings for how slow or fast the gimbal responds to your movements. I assume most gimbals have such settings???

They do it is just that filmic pro does not support mine.

I see. OTOH, I’m fascinated by your drone footage and all the possibilities that drones present. So much cool technology, so little time and money .

Dave I think you would really enjoy flying a drone. For me it captures such a different aspect that I enjoy it. There are some deals out there too. The DJI Mavic mini is reasonably priced and small enough to tote around.

Cool footage Dave and smooth! I researched gimbals a few years ago and almost got one. My Dad and I went out on a charter on Lake Erie. So odd to be out in the middle or almost middle and can't see land. About 30 minutes after anchoring a huge storm hit. Torrential rain and lightning. We had to sit on the floor in the rain all the way back. I was scared and my Dad said he was too but didn't want to tell me on the ride back. Being a Mom I kept thinking about my daughter. I would love to go out on Erie again only on a sunny dry day!

This time of year is good to get out in nature and stay a distance away from others. We've gone to the local watershed center. Not the same as your Lake Erie.
