Diving the Stavronikita - Using Resolve

Postby Chris B » Wed Sep 19, 2018 1:06 pm

As promised - I tried to put together some of my dive videos from this year using only Resolve. The result of one of these is below. Everything - including the titles - was done only in the free Resolve. This time we had two people with gopros which was great but colour matching was quite a struggle as they were very different. The dive was also quite deep (30 meters/100 feet) so quite dark. Extensive use of the colour wheels and stabiliser which I'm mostly happy with.

Using Resolve was interesting and I'm learning all the time. From my understanding it likes you to do things in order - edit first, colour second etc. and going back and making changes can cause things like the stabilisation to need redoing. I don't find moving clips on the timeline very intuitive (although I may just need to learn the right trick to get this done). Fusion for the titles is very powerful and the final render uses all my processor cores  .

That must be an incredible experience. You did a great job with this video! As someone who's never dived forgive a stupid question, but what's the floating particles in the water that looks like debris?

It's probably just plankton of some sort. You don't really see it when you're diving but the camera picks up on it. It's a really nice wreck.

Here she is being sunk!

The video looks great Chris. You matched the 2 cameras really well. When you dove across some of the shop's cavities I kept expecting a big fish to jump out. It must feel kind of eerie diving through the wreck.
