Snow - video

Postby Ron Hunter » Fri Feb 27, 2015 12:06 pm

We don't get snow very often in my area, so when it falls, it is a big deal. I made this video yesterday to capture the snow while it lasted.

This video was shot with my GH4 in 1080 60p so I could include some slo-mo clips. I used a Rokinon 7.5mm fisheye lens for maximum wide angle, and then used a FCPX plugin to remove the fisheye effect. All clips were shot with the SteadyTracker Ultralite. I'm learning that this device may not give the silky smooth shots of more expensive gear, but it is probably good enough for my projects, especially with more practice. I used cloudy WB and it must have worked because I saw no color cast in the RGB Parade during editing. It was a cloudy day so I played with exposure controls in post to brighten things up a bit.

Very nice SteadyTracker, Ron!

Snow is kind of pretty when you're not buried under it 3 months out of the year.

Ron that was really nice. I agree that the steady tracker is doing a good job. I guess if you really want 100% perfect you could use after effects, but I agree that your footage is plenty smooth. It is also cool to see the contrast in your house from summer with blooms to the white of the snow. Good Job.

A great little snow vid Ron! That was some pretty perky music for a dull and dreary day. I would probably have enjoyed it more if we didn't already have so much on the ground with another 4" predicted Sunday. :)

Thanks for your warm comments everyone! Chuck, you and I are in the same boat when it comes to snow, not a lot of that happens down south. Our Northern friends laugh at us as we shutdown for flurries! Speaking of which, did you see this picture? I loved it!

A nice upbeat song! I liked the low angle shots thru the trees. Where is Joey Boxer? I am with Steve & Dave that the snow has to end! We are getting yet another storm today and another on Wed. Someone said that February is the new January. Looks like the March will be more of the same.

Ron great video! We have plenty of snow, but it was nice to view your video from inside and warm. Looks like you have a beautiful house and property!

One of my Southern friends told us about Snow Ice Cream. I had never heard of it before, but considering the blizzard that hit NC (lol) I guess it very popular now ha

I googled it and found this recipe,

8 cups of clean snow
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla

Mix and enjoy lol

Thanks Karri! My wife made us a big batch of snow crème the morning of the "blizzard". Very tasty!

Mom you asked about Joey the Boxer, he is not a fan of cold weather and was happily sitting inside watching me as I walked around the yard. He's such a good boy!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed your vid. The music, your slow-hand pans and low view walkabouts...fun to watch.
