...short video, one from my growing collection of "Sicily Snapshots".
The Capuchin Catacombs are burial catacombs in Palermo, Sicily.
Palermo's Capuchin monastery outgrew its original cemetery in the 16th century and monks began to excavate crypts below it. In 1599 they mummified one of their number, recently dead brother Silvestro of Gubbio, and placed him into the catacombs. Originally the catacombs were intended only for the dead friars. However, in the following centuries, it became a status symbol to be entombed into the Capuchin catacombs. Relatives would visit to pray for the deceased and also to maintain the body in presentable condition.

Has anyone been able to play this? I haven't been able to either with Internet Explorer or Chrome. I can play John's other videos on Vimeo. Only this one won't play.

Hmmm! I'll reload the video to Vimeo and edit the original post when it has completed. EDIT: New file loaded to Vimeo, now seems to play correctly.

That's pretty gruesome.

The music brings kind of a "fun" touch to a macabre topic.
One suggestion: Add some pan and zoom to the photos.

It was a toss up between Ghost Town and Ghost Busters!

Hehehe,
although it wasn't exactly what I expected from your new video concerning the atmosphere ... I liked the framing and some very good angles.
I wonder if natural camera movements as in your first video of the procession (which I consider a piece of art as a very good composition and thanks to its true golden color) could have added a (even) stronger emotion.

I ditto what Bob Peru said. The music adds a different quality to the macabre subject. Thanks John for showing us a little bit of history from your new home. You got me hooked, now go shoot more!
