Trees - a slider video

Postby Ron Hunter » Sun Mar 09, 2014 7:33 pm

This weekend I had a chance to experiment more with my Konova K3 slider. I used the Rebel T4i (manual focus and exposure) on the slider for varying angles of trees in a local forest. I cut 20 minutes of footage down to less than 2 minutes long!

The soundtrack is from the Vimeo Music Store. I tried using Premiere Elements 12 "Beat Detect" feature but I couldn't configure it so that the beats were correctly detected, so I just did it manually. I used the "Auto Color" correction feature for each video clip.

Dave Dugdale's tutorial on T4i manual focusing helped me a lot with this video. I did use auto focus on one segment where the viewer is "pushing away" from the tree, but everything else was manual focus and exposure. I used 60p to record the footage and "interpreted footage" to 24p for my 24p timeline.

Here it is:
Desktop: HPE-580T, i7-950 (3.07GHz), 16GB RAM, Win'7 64-bit Home Premium, PSE12/PRE12, Lightroom 5.
Laptop: MacBook Pro (retina), 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5.
Cameras (in use): Panasonic GH4/Canon HFR400/Canon HV30, GoPro HD Hero2.

Ron that was pretty cool. The slider really adds a lot of interest.

Nothing adds depth to a scene like a good slider shot. And these are all very good, Ron! Makes me feel like I'm right in the forest with you.

Looks like you have a handle on the slider shots! :-D I'm sure you will have lots of fun with it this spring/summer.
