Fall Slices - trip-hop (again)

A few Fall shots and a little time-lapse set to trip-hop (again). Fall went by too quickly and regret not shooting more time-lapses. I was waiting for good days of sun and just the right amount of clouds, but when the weather co-operated I was unavailable. The window of fall colors seem to fly by too.

You never cease to amaze, Cheryl. Ever consider teaching AE? I'll bet there are any number of places near that would hire you with only a sample of your work for a résumé. Loved it!

That was COOOOOOOOOL. Nice choice of colors, excellent music mix, just the right amount of time. I loved it. If I was 3 years old I would keep saying "do it again, do it again"

Thanks Dave! Teach AE?? I don't mind helping if someone has a question. The masks are fairly easy to create in AE once you know how they handle. Double click and you can move just one side. Single click and the sides move independently. Shift and move to get straight movement otherwise they could turn from a rectangle to a quadragon shape. Some things you learn a little here and there from tuts. The first draft was choppy and went back to set easy ease keyframes or ease in or out. My early work in AE is choppy not knowing at the time how to smooth stuff out. The one thing about AE that I really like is that I can set keyframes for many layers at one time, for instance the opening stills' opacity keyframes. And through out I can move keyframes in the layers based on the camera's keyframes to line them up in time. In PrPro I get frustrated that I can't change more than one clip's keyframes at a time.

Thanks Sidd! Between the 2 min & 3 min mark is my attention span for length. The 40mm & the 50mm are very nice lenses and pick up the fall colors nicely. Time of day matters too. We had a lot of full overcast days so not good for shooting, very flat light. The music is from the same composer of the other trip-hop video. Check out his other work:

Thanks Gerlinde & Peru! Yes, lens choices are good. If I add another lens it would be a wide angle zoom, maybe the 17-55 range.

My favorite part was the lighthouse segment, it was short but it was awesome !!
Very smooth, good music and an excellent job of putting everything together and making it very interesting.
I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.

Thanks Karri & Chuck! I used the Monfrotto 560B for some of the shots. It has a swivel in the base. You may remember a post I had awhile back asking how to get the stabilizer pin out of the plate. It was sold for camcorders and I wanted to use it for the Dslr. I ended up buying another plate and not putting the pin in, a $12 investment. Not as smooth as I wanted and need to practice. A good fluid head would help and on my wish list. The lighthouse wasn't quite to the left so moved it in post and the bars hid that fact, sorta improvised with a smaller mask. The panning shots I slowed down considerably to hopefully disguise my less than smooth moves.

I'm also interested in the Manfrotto 128LP Micro Fluid Head. I could probably also use it with my Manfrotto Monopod. But I still would need to get some tripod legs for it.

Of course the Manfrotto 502 Video Head MVH502AH would be a great option, but it is kind of pricy. I would also need legs, I'm not sure if I want to spend that much money.
