A little trip-hop experimental video

Postby momoffduty » Wed Oct 02, 2013 7:28 pm

A little electronic trip-hop music for my experimental video. That sad passage of summer now gone.

Very surreal. Brings back memories of the 60s! :ha:

Thanks Steve, Bob & Dave! Oh no Dave, the 60's?? I was thinking more of the early 70's ;)

Bob, I really enjoy the experimental video projects. I don't have to worry about white balance. :) I never know when I will have another idea for a project. This one I have been thinking about for over a month and finally ideas came to try out in AE. Funny how the mind works. I read an article recently in Time mag that people are and can be creative in the later years. They gave several examples of architects, writers, and painters. One painter didn't pick up a brush until her 80's. The article also said that creating or learning something new in depth keeps the mind healthy and lessens dementia. The article didn't talk about any of the frustrations learning new things.

Another Mom gem! I like it too.

Ever since I build my new computer and got a new laptop I have not really done any serious video editing :ha:
I'm just playing around with my new toys and think about all the possibilities. I even come up with ideas, but the execution is lacking
:pull:

What is wrong with me :conf: Do I have editors block...?

Well, maybe in a few years my creativity will offset my arthritis. :-

What you need is a project with a deadline. ;)

Thanks Gerlinde & Bob (Peru)! I have one bad knee that acts up on occasion. A little hard at times to get those creative shots. I think a deadline or a challenge to yourself would help unblock the video block. I get those blocks often and then get discouraged. What inspires me is new techniques in others' videos to get the creative juice flowing. This video was inspired by one on Vimeo and I did link on the description page to his video. For a month I was trying to come up with my own spin on his video. Nothing, nothing, until one day things came in to mind.

Here is the link to his video: https://vimeo.com/68016658 I loved the flowing motion of his piece and very peaceful.

Peru, you might be on to something.... I work best when I have not much time on my hands :conf:

Thanks for the encouragement, Cheryl :-D

Wow Cheryl, I just got around to watching this video and I'm blown away. There is a LOT going on in that video. Your talent is amazing!! How long did it take you to create that video? Did your experience with Lynda.com tutorials help with it?

Thanks Ron! I would highly recommend Lynda.com Tuts to learn AE. And also recommend the After Effects Apprentice workbook by Meyer. Combined they give a good foundation of the program. After that lots of tuts based on a specific effect you want to achieve. AE is like PS in that it is different for each person's usage. There are effects and panels that I don't use much or ever in AE.

This took me several days to create. For a month I thought about the project and did some editing in my mind before opening AE. I also spent time culling through footage the past month to spark an idea. The first day in AE I had many crashes because I was trying different ideas and effects. The blend modes take a lot of power. For the meters to audio, I did this effect a few years ago and forgot how. Fortunately, I had the old project and opened it up to refresh my memory. So a lot of trial and error. There were a few things that I completely scrapped and may use that concept in another video.
