My wife and I were looking for a relaxing way to spend some time together for our recent anniversary. I'm ashamed to say that although the museum is only 15 miles away this is the first time that I've been there since shortly after it opened in the early 70s. Here's a vid that I put together as a memento of the day. Nothing fancy, but I had fun putting this together, as it's different from my usual projects. I know some of the pans are a little rough - I'm due to purchase a good tripod. Christmas is coming. I selected 1080 on Vimeo and later found out that 720 would have been just fine, so if bandwidth is an issue let me know and I'll re-upload and try it again.

Nice job Dave. Reminds me of the time I went to the Wright Patterson Museum. There is so much cool history. You shots looked really well lit and clear what camera did you use. I also like how it looks like the place is deserted. That is always what I try to do in some of my videos. Record a place that is extremely open and public but wait till people are out of the shot to make it look like I was the only one invited. Good work.

Thanks Sidd. The camcorder is the Canon VIXIA HF G10. I didn't take any stills, but I did create quite a few freeze frames from the video. The remainder were lifted from government sites - just photos that have been distributed a million times. Been to Wright-Patt many times. It's much, much larger than Armstrong, but there's something about the hometown hero atmosphere at Wapak that makes you feel good. I read a while back that the sequestration has caused W-P to close the annex buildings because of the additional expense. That's a shame. There are a lot of great historic planes over there too. It should be part of anyone's visit. Gotta love the IMAX theater, too. I hear they just made a major upgrade to it.

I love the extreme zooms on the opening and closing photos.
About the only thing missing from the video was the crowd. Were you guys the only ones there? It seems so empty!

I used the Crowds Filter effect and edited them out in post. Actually, I did as Sidd said and pretty much waited until there was no one where I wanted to shoot. It wasn't exactly wall-to-wall people.

Very nice presentation Dave! Fun project and brought back memories. The astronauts audio added to this piece.

The remove people plug in worked too good. The video needs some feet!

Dave, I really like your video, especially the parts with the original voice recordings. Great idea to present your footage that way.
I visited the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Orlando in 1996. They had a decommissioned Space Shuttle to explore. I took a 2day cruise to the Bahamas the same day in the evening. When we arrived in the morning in Freeport, we could watch the Space Shuttle take off for another mission. Ah, memories....., thanks for sharing Dave.

Thanks Gerlinde. I was trying to tell a story, as we like to say, and not just show clips. I'm glad it came across at least to some measurable degree. Wow, that sounds like a great trip! I've never been to Kennedy. We have some friends who have watched space shuttles launch several times. His mom lived across the bay and they had a seat on the 50 yard line, so to speak. They say it's a sight they'll never forget. I was just reading today that NASA has no use now for the launch platforms that were used for the moon shots and space shuttles and they're trying to figure out what to do with them.

Dave, thanks so much for this...especially since Sunday the 25th will mark 1 year since Neil Armstrong's death. I cried when I heard the news. I really admired how he stayed out of the limelight - seemed like such a humble person. Is the museum in Wapakoneta? Shortly after the Apollo 11 flight I read a book called "First on the Moon" with the astronaut's histories and details of their training and the missions leading up to and including the lunar landing. Over the years if I ran into someone from Ohio I asked if they've been there and no one had ever heard of the town. So cool they've honored him.
I was at Kennedy Space Center about a month before Apollo 11 launched. We took a bus tour and saw (from a distance) the launch pad. I've been to Johnson Space Center in Houston and Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. My son has seen 2 shuttle launches and even from miles away the rumble is very impressive - still nothing like a Saturn 5 launch, though. How I would have loved to experience one of those!!
Thanks again...and, yeah, hearing Armstrong's voice again made me tear up. WELL DONE!!
