WOW to all of you...the videos are great. Gerlinde, I absolutely LOVE the colors in your photo! And the water droplets really add a sparkly "mystery" to the scene.
I rarely see any around my house, but yesterday i did - it moved thru quickly after checking out my plants. i'm afraid it might be one that my neighbor fed for years. When they moved last month she left behind the feeder and some food and asked the new people to feed them. They must have run out of food
But you all have had such great success i may get a feeder and try to keep them on my side of the street!!
THANKS for posting!

Excellent idea! Be sure to keep the feeder clean, which means changing the food whether they have eaten it or not at least once a week. Mold can grow, not good for hummers. They're fun to have around. Even more fun to film! So much easier to get a closer look.

Love the photo Gerlinde! Chuck, where did you find that song? Fits perfect with your video. Fancy feeder & 2 birds! Liked the closeups.

Wonderful and great emotions ! My compliments ! My videocam doesn't have a slow motion option, but I managed to use free Slowmovideo for Windows, with good (experimental) results. I am going to open a topicto show this alternative to Twixtor for premiere: a filmmaker friend says that results on moving water are even better !

That is very important, I clean ours at least once a week. Take it completely apart and wash everything is hot water. I also make the food, 4 cups water to 1 cup of sugar. Bring water to a boil, add sugar and stir until completely dissolved, continue to boil for 2 minutes then remove from heat and let cool. No food coloring needed, or recommended for that matter. Cheryl, Larry Stewart is one of my old favorite country vocalists. Never really worked out for him after Restless Heart split up. I'm sure everyone here knows a Restless Heart song or two Got to see Larry Stewart live a few times and was able to meet him on several occasions. Got to know his keyboard player back in Minnesota during a show at the Gatlin Brothers club in the Mall of America, that was back around 1994. Will post some Restless Heart in the Music thread

Chuck, how long can you keep the solution after it's made? Or do you make only enuf for all your feeders and have nothing left over?

That's a pretty standard recipe. The 2 minute boiling after the sugar is dissolved is to kill mold spores and help prevent spoilage. This makes an excellent culture medium for bacteria and mold which you can't avoid. It's best if you store any excess in the refrigerator and discard after a week.

Bob is correct. I make one batch, only put about a cup in each feeder (there are two) and store the rest in the refrigerator. I will fill the feeders again in about 4 - 5 days which will empty the container, then I start over again the next week. If it is over 90 degrees (F) I will change the solution in the feeders every 2 days but as long as it stays under 90 it seems to be good for 4 - 5 days. The cooler it is the longer it will last, up to 7 days.

Here are my humdingers. I enjoy them literally flying through my back porch from end to end. The one in slow motion was only 3 or 4 feet from where I was sitting. They have gotten even closer to others who were sitting in the chair by the railing.

Very nice Cinde, thanks for sharing your Hummers with us It's funny how one bird can control and protect a number of feeders and the others don't fight back more. You would think that they could all share ....

Cinde,
Thanks for adding your hummers! Amazing how much energy they expend trying to be greedy, isn't it? I have found that the closer it is to time for them to migrate the nicer they are to one another.
Your porch certainly looks like a pleasant place to relax and watch them!

Thanks for sharing Cinde. Your birds have no fear coming so close. A nice view from the porch too...feet up, glass of ice tea & watch the hummers...a perfect summer day.
