Can I output a modified photo (with added text) from either photoshop elements or premier elements that will be an acceptable format in slideshow?
If so, what format do I choose for output?

How will you be viewing the slideshow?
The device used to play it will determine how to output it.

If you're talking about the Slideshow Creator in the Organizer, you can use almost any photo format (JPG, TIF, PNG) and it will work as source footage. But I don't know that you can use a video format in the Slideshow Creator.
