Output Length of Video Wrong

Output Length of Video Wrong

Postby russg » Thu Feb 09, 2023 11:28 am

I have a multi-clip video that in the editor measures 3 minutes 31 seconds total length. When I export the video, it is 10 minutes and 41 seconds long. It says so right in the output preview. This holds true when exported to both 1080p at 29.97 per as well as 720p at 29.97. Format for both is MP4 - H.264 at high quality. The extra 7 minutes is at the end is is pure black. A second video shot with the same gear exports to the correct length. The significant difference between the two videos is that the one with the extra 7 minutes is time-compressed using Clip>Time Stretch....Two clips are compressed at 150% speed and three are at 250%. I'm sure this is the reason for the extended export, but not sure what to do about it other than load the exported video and crop it, but then you have a generational copy as the final output, something I'd rather not do

Thoughts?

I am assuming this is a problem due to the position of the work area bar. Please confirm that the work area bar does not go past the actual video portion on your timeline.

Hi Chuck, thanks for the reply. Yes, the Work Area Bar is constrained to the 3 minutes and 31 seconds of the project, with the vertical silver markers positioned at the beginning and end of the series of clips.

Problem solved. While examining the timeline closer, somehow a clip of nothing was sitting beyond the 3:31 play time as delimited by the work area bar. I didn't notice it before because it was just white like the unused portion of the timeline with a light grey border around it. That's how you get 7 minutes of black screen. Mystery clip of nothingness deleted and the project now exports to the correct length. Thanks to Chuck, who got me to examine the timeline beyond the work area bar.

There is also an option when exporting to only export what is within the Work Area Bar. Great Video as Always Steve :TU:
