Premiere Elements or DaVinci Resolve

Premiere Elements or DaVinci Resolve

Postby tedco » Mon Apr 04, 2022 8:34 pm

I am normally using Adobe's Premiere Elements 2022 for my video editing, but am looking in to the latest of DaVinci Resolve for video editing.

Main reason is that I think DaVinci is better in enhancing old digitized video recordings for noise etc., but I may be wrong.

The majority of my files are in VOB-format, which DaVinci apparently does not support.

However, I have discovered that I can just change the VOB-extension to Mp4, mpg or avi, supported by DaVinci for import.

My question is, does changing file format this way cause any deterioration in video and audio quality ?

Another question I have is, what is the preferred export output format for video to be played on both computer and television ?

As always, Thanks for your help and support

Should be no issue on the extension change but test it out to make sure it works for you.

H.264 in an MPEG4 is the most standard.

But do note that changing a files suffix doesn't change its format. If doing so worked for you, then you got lucky. But you can't simply change an VOB to an MP4 by changing the .vob suffix to .mp4.

VOB files are a form of MPG, so I guess you could change the suffix to MPG if you wanted to. Likewise, I think MP4s and M4Vs are pretty much interchangeable.

But you certainly can't make a VOB into an AVI by simply changing its suffix.

Thanks for your replies.
Have you any thoughts of a really good converter.
There are so many advertised but not all great.
BTW, your latest book about Premiere Elements 2022 is available in Kindle format.
Can that be read in Adobe Acrobat ?
Thanks,

You can just right click the converted kindle epub or kindle pdf and select Open with>>Adobe Digital Editions. Now your kindle books are open in Adobe Digital Editions and you can read them on Adobe. No matter you are on Windows or Mac, you can read kindle books on Adobe Digital Editions now

As you may have seen in my tutorials, I'm a big fan of Handbrake. It's simple, free and very effective.
