Capture video from sony pd150 video camera

Postby philj » Mon Jun 15, 2020 6:42 pm

Hello. For years I used adobe premiere pro cc and was very happy with it but now I am doing much less video editing. because of the cost of cc I decided to buy premiere elements 2020. I also purchased muvipix guide to elements so thanks for the book. To my question. As you know there is no problem bringing in video from camera through fire wire into premiere. As I found out elements does not offer this feature. Does anyone know of a safe free or for purchase app that will allow me to input my videos into my pc via fire wire? I just need to get footage from sony cam into my pc and looking for suggestions.
Thanks in advance
Phil

As we say in the book, the best free program for capturing miniDV over FireWire is WinDV.

The best free program for capturing HDV is HDVSplit.

Otherwise, both CyberLink PowerDirector and Vegas Movie Studio include more traditional miniDV and HDV capture software. Both programs are under $100, and they video they capture can be edited in Premiere Elements.

Thanks for quick reply. I did install windv and did a short capture. I also imported into elements to see if it worked correctly. So far so good. The interface of windv is a little confusing but it is free.
Thanks
