A video in portrait aspect with black borders

Postby Red Sanders » Thu Jun 04, 2020 12:24 pm

Steve, I posted the following on YouTube regarding your video "Using portrait 9:16 phone video in a landscape 16:9 Premiere Elements project". But, decided to post it here too.

I'm working with a portrait video taken with a phone. I thought I followed every step you showed in your video, but the black border is still there. I've confirmed that the bottom video is scaled to 320 by blocking the top video from showing. Since I first tried using that technique in a project that I had already started, I thought maybe I'd done something to prevent this technique from working. So, I started a new project involving just the video.

I'm working with PRE 2020 and have your "The Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 2020", but didn't find a reference to this procedure in there. Thanks for your great help!!!

Can you post a screen shot of your timeline, Red, as well as a screen shot of your Applied Effects panel with the video on Video 1 selected?

I replicated the process with a different video - again it's one that was taken on a phone in portrait, and this time it worked as you described it would!

So, unless there's a mistake in my configurations, I'm guessing the problem has something to do with the video with which this process didn't work.

I'd say that's the case, Red. Things look like they're set up right in the screen shots you've provided -- but there should be a yellow orange render line above the clips on the timeline and there is not.

So something isn't as it should, but based on what I've seen it's hard to see what.

Steve, as usual, quick replies, sooo much appreciated! I'll post here again if I encounter this problem a few more times - hopefully not!
