adding media to elements 2019

Postby ojh » Thu Dec 12, 2019 8:18 am

I have recently bought premiere elements 2019, coming from Sony Vegas Movie studio 13.
I find Elements much more intuitive to work with.
However, I have difficulties picking up videos from my Sony DCR-PC8E camera.
Elements will not show my camera.
I use fire wire cable for connection.
I am forced to use Sony Vegas to import the videos - render the file as a MP4 file and import it into Elements 2019.

Surely, there must be an easier way.

Best regards

Premiere Elements 2019 does not include a feature for capturing video from tape-based camcorders, like your miniDV. But you do have options:
1) If you capture your video over FireWire using Vegas, you can then use the AVIs that it captures as is in Premiere Elements. No need to convert them to MP4s first.
2) A free alternative, WinDV, will also capture miniDV footage and save it as AVIs, which you can import directly into Premiere Elements. However WinDV is not as full featured as Vegas' video capture tool.

You can run the Vegas video capture application independently of Vegas Movie Studio. No need to run Vegas Movie Studio at all, although you still need the entire application installed I believe.

Find Vidcap60.exe in the same folder as the Movie Studio exe (not sure the exact file name). Create a shortcut to Vidcap60.exe so you skip navigating the Program Files folder to get to it.
