Looking thru a Prism

Postby sidd finch » Thu Mar 10, 2022 10:10 am

In this experiment I attached a mylar and cardboard triangular tube prism to the front lens of an insta360 one x2 camera. I then recorded some of the flowers in the garden to see what effect it would look like. I think it looked kinda cool.

The flowers were a good subject to try for this experiment. Pretty neat. Psychedelic, man. I might have used some sitar music. ;)

Thank you Dave I was struggling with a music choice. I might try and swap out and try some sitar.

Awesome! The sitar is an awesome sounding instrument, and looks like it would be a bear to play. I really wasn't asking, or expecting, you to change your music, but I do like it a lot. It sounds very much like Anoushka Shankar from the Concert for George. She's a formidable sitar musician. :TU:

Dave your comment reaffirmed what I was feeling that something was amiss in the original audio so then change makes it better I think.

Ahh. The use of Latin. Not many people know this but, when Julius Caeser arrived in Britain in 55BC, he uttered the words "veni, vidi, vici."

Now the ancient Britons, not being familiar with Latin, heard the words as "weany, weedy, weaky" and they were naturally outraged at the insult. So the queen of the ancient Iceni tribe, Boudicca, waged war on the Romans and so it took them much longer to subdue the enraged native population. Just thought that I should clarify that point for you. :-D

"weany, weedy, weaky"

John for those folks who did not enjoy the video I would venture a guess that those words might still apply. :hyst:

Interesting tale, John. But remember, Latin did kill the Romans eventually. :-D

Thanks Mom, Dave hit it when he suggested the sitar music. I think because the camera lens is such a wide angle it makes for a cool effect that my GoPro does not record. I want to try and see if I could put the camera and prism on a slider to get a more controlled image. But all in all pretty fun. Thanks for watching.

Sidd, it's always a treat to see what ideas you come up with. Lots of fun.

Anoushka Shankar and her father Ravi Shankar both performed at the Concert for George. Fyi, Anoushka and Norah Jones are half-sisters (same dad, different moms). I had the pleasure of meeting Ravi Shankar in the early 1960's. I was restoring a Sitar for a friend and Ravi was gracious and told me what guage music wire to use and how to properly affix the movable frets so the instrument could be tuned and be able to play the specific notes of the Raga being performed.

Bob always glad you enjoy my little creations.

Anoushka and Norah Jones are half-sisters

Had no idea they were related to Ravi. I did a YouTube search on Sitar and found a guy who play the sitar with a heavy metal sound bed. Not my cup of tea but very interesting stuff.
