Length of Title Clip text

Length of Title Clip text

Postby abbaker2 » Tue Oct 20, 2020 12:36 pm

I created a Title (text) clip that had a default of 5 second duration. I forgot to increase the duration to the desired 30 seconds when I created it.

I have gone back and successfully used the Time Stretch option to increase the background clip to 30 seconds and also the corresponding Title clip. However, the actual text stops after 5 seconds even though the Title clip is 30 seconds long on the timeline.

I have tried to delete the entire Title clip and then recreated it. This time I increased the time to 30 seconds before adding the actual text. Same result.

How can I get the text to last for the entire 30 seconds?

Don't use Time Stretch on titles. That won't work. Instead, stretch your title as if you are trimming a clip to the duration you want.

Which title template are you using, by the way? They do have different characteristics.

Does this template include text animations?

Steve,

I did as you suggested but the result is the same.

To recap:

I stretched the background to 30 seconds using Time Stretch

I clicked on Text ->New Text -> Default Text
That put a 5 second title above the background.

I dragged the Title clip to 30 seconds

I selected the Title Clip in the timeline, put it into edit mode, and added the required text by copying the text from a Word file, a sequence I have used successfully many time before.

Both the background Clip & the Title clip show a duration of 30 seconds but the final text appears as it should in the title for only 5 seconds, then goes out.

I don't know why that would be, abb. I've never experienced anything like that. You don't have any animation at all, right? Just still text on the screen.

Can you post a screen capture of your timeline with your title added and stretched out to 30 seconds?

Steve,

You are correct - no animations anywhere.

the attached screen capture shows

- both background and title at 30 seconds

- the point just before the text fades to black

Thanks for your help

Why is your title split into Title 14 and Title 15?

Can you toggle open the tracks so that I can actually see the clips on the tracks and if any effects have been added to them?

Title 14 and Title 15 are different titles having different Texts.
Title 14 is meant to be only 5 seconds and is normal.
They were created separately.

How do I "toggle open the the tracks"?

Click on the little triangle to the left of each track header.

I can't see anything in this screen capture that would cause your issue.

Can you send me your .prel project file? Email it to Steve at this web site dot com. (Don't write my or any e-mail address on a forum. It triggers the spambots.) I don't need any media. Just the .prel file. Should be pretty small.

Just make sure you reference Premiere Elements in the subject line so I'll know it's not spam.

Thanks for sending me the project file, abb.

We're talking about titles clips 14 and 15, right? Because when I look at title 15, it plays for the entire 30 seconds you have it stretched out to on your timeline.

Am I missing something? I got the idea that no matter how long you stretched out the clip your title disappeared after a few seconds.

Steve,

You are correct. Title 15 is the problem. In my 10/20/20 post, I listed the steps I used to produce the title and the problem. I only tried to stretch it this one time to 30 seconds. Haven’t tried other values. Can’t see why it would be any different.

This is the only time I tried to insert something into the timeline. The other times I have been just adding my titles and photos at the end of the existing timeline.

So what should I be looking for? The file looks fine to me.

Inserting in the timeline is not really easy. Depending on what keys you hold down when you Select, Drag and Drop on the timeline you will have different results.

Also, did you copy the title from another title, that can also cause issues.
