narration tool auto stops after a few second

Postby mattwinn » Sun May 30, 2021 8:04 pm

Hi all,

I am recording as I have for two years now - no changes settings or equipment. My narration tool is stopping every 32 seconds. I am ok if my narration is 32 seconds every time but unfortunately I am long winded. It appears to be set or restricted to 32 seconds at a time to record. can anyone assist in this. Thank you.

32 seconds is an odd interval. There's certainly nothing in the program that restricts the length of your narration. But 32 seconds exactly? Very strange.

First thing I'd consider is some service interrupting things. Are you using an antivirus other than Windows Defender? Are you using Norton or another utility?

Is it safe to assume you're using Windows 10 64-bit, and that you are recording to your C drive?

Finally, if you record to Windows Voice Recorder (built into Windows 10) are you able to record for more than 32 seconds?

Steve - What i was doing different than before is that I was using a prepared script and had no assets what so ever in the project. My narrative I wanted first. Does PE 2019 have a default mechanism to stop narration if there is no video or picture assets. I retried with the video I want and it worked. With no video it stops automatically at 32 and 64 and so in multiples of 32. Anyways, it works with video but stops if nothing else on any track.
thanks,
matt

I still don't know why that's happening, Matt. I'd be surprised if it were part of Premiere Elements' programming.

But if you're recording your narration onto a blank timeline, it might be worth using a third-party voice recorder. I use Sound Forge, but the free program Audacity will do -- and, as I've said, Windows itself includes a good, basic voice recorder. You can then save your audio as a WAV or MP3 and import it into your video project like any other media.

When I'm working on a project, I typically look over my media and find the story, type up my narration in a Word document and then record it as a WAV file. I can then put the WAV file onto my timeline and use it as the bones to add my media to.

Steve,
Thank you. I have been playing with audacity. It is pretty good and not too difficult to learn. For me I do not hear the added value of Audacity over PE.
I do not have the best sound area so both room and mic quality need upgrades (using a blue yeti snoball). If I could get the echo sound out with Audacity I would use it exclusively but as stated, the room and equipment need a higher quality.
Thank you.

My audio specialist friends always recommend recording in a closet full of clothes or from under a sheet or blanket, for what it's worth.
