Videos in MPG format.

Postby kenskopp » Wed Aug 12, 2020 6:31 pm

Hi,

I have 120 digitized vhs tapes in MPG format. What would be best PRE2018 Preset to use?

Let Premiere Elements choose it by placing one on the timeline.

Hello,

I beleived I made mistake by checking "Force Selected Project Setting on this Project" box. I created a new project with Project Setting "NTSC-avchd 1080p". I added the video to project. I burned an ISO file and then burned a disk. About 17 minutes in to the disk, the audio was degraded and I had to increase volume. I checked that location on the project in PRE2018 and the project audio was off a little bit. This change in audio was magnified on the burned DVD. When I play the video direct from the folder on my computer there is no change in the audio. Obviously, there is a corruption when I bring the video into PRE2018. When I check "Properties" of the video clip it says it is
"MPG File (.mpg)". I have attached "Properties" of the digitized vhs tape.

I have 120 of these digitized vhs tapes.

Yes, you did make a mistake, Ken. You overrode the program's auto-setup!

Try starting a new project and then drag one of those MPEGs to the timeline. Do you see a yellow orange render line above the clip on the timeline?

If you do not and you only see the gray timeline ticker along the top of the timeline, then your project is correctly set up.

If you see a yellow orange render line above the clip, the program is not able to match your MPEG and we will need to dig deeper to find out what is going on.

Hi Steve,

I tried another digitized video. The project loaded without any yellow line. I burned it to a DVD with Imageburn and the DVD played flawlessly. On the project where the audio degrades after 17 minutes into the project, is there any adjustment to be made at that point to increase the volume in the project? I am making assumption there is just something wrong with that digitized vhs tape.

As always, thank you for your insight and support. I could not do all the DVDs that I make for my grandchildren without Muvipix's support. On aside note, I always liked the slide show process prior to PRE2018. Has the slide show options changed any with PRE2020? If it has, I will upgrade to PRE2020.

Most likely there was a mismatch between project settings and video specs that caused the audio shift on the DVD.

It's very difficult to fix that after the fact, particularly if it's a result of variable frame rate in your original MPEG.

Thanks Steve,

I have already set up 5 digitized vhs tapes in Pre2018. One quick question. Has there been any changes in slide shows from Pre2018 to Pre2020? I really did like the options available in Pre15.

Thank you again for your quidance.

The program uses the same four slideshow options as previous editions.

Are we changing conversations? We didn't resolve your digitizing issue, did we?

If you want to continue troubleshooting your issues, open one of your MPEGs in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the text and paste it to this forum. This will provide us with a much more detailed report on your source video.

Medisinfo Text.pdf
Hi Steve,

I apoligize for my confusion. The Mediainfo data is from the digitized VHS tape that I was having the audio problem. In PRE2018 project after 17 minutes there is a small detected change in the audio. After I exported the ISO file and burned it with Imageburn, the audio after 17 minutes is distorted and sound must me turned up almost to maximum to hear that portion of the DVD. I have tranfered around 20 of the digitized tapes to PRE2018 projects. The sound appears to be ok when played.

Possibly tht one tape had an anomaly that was magnified in the transfer from PRE2018 projected when burned to a DVD. I await your determination from the data attached.

Well, I don't see anything especially challenging about this MPEG video. It looks like it's just pretty standard DVD-ready MPEG.

So as long as your project settings are matched to your video specs (as indicated by the fact that you don't see a render line when you add the video to your timeline) you shouldn't have any problems with it.

Hi Steve,

You are correct I have created 20 PRE2018 projects and no yellow line has appeared. I have created 2 DVDs with Imageburn with no problems. The first digitized tape I worked with must have a defect in the audio that was amplified in creating the DVD. Thank you again for your support.
