Just a further point of interest. I've noticed that my stuttering timeline etc is only like it when I have any of the 'menu' panels left open on the right hand side - ie transitions, text etc.

I'm sure it didn't happen in PRE 14 as I often used to leave a panel open ready for use.

Is this something that has changed with PRE2018 ?

Sounds like a graphics issue with the user interface, strange that a few panels should cause an excess use of video memory. Can you tell if either the GPU or CPU memory is being eaten up if the panels are open versus closed?

Thanks Chuck

I've had chance to check a few things. With any of the panels open and the timeline running the CPU is 'topping out much more than with panels closed. Even worse, if I run the timeline without rendering the CPU hits the top and stays there for the duration of the un-rendered section (perhaps this is normal? ). This happens even if I've only made a small change to the gamma setting (for instance) of a clip.

Now that I'm aware of this, I can work ok, providing I remember to close all panels and render whenever I have made changes. My guess is that I'm running close to or at the limit of my CPU.

Thanks again
