What project preset to use?

Postby kenskopp » Sat Aug 10, 2019 9:27 pm

Hello,

I purchased a Panasonic Camcorder last month and have taken video clips in AVCHD/1080/60p. The camcorder can also shoot in MP4/180, 720. I also have a I Phone that I take videos with and my Nikon D3100 DSLR. My question is what project preset should I use to start my next project which will include .jpeg, .mov and .mst media?
Up to this point all or most of my media was from my Nikon and I used "DSLR/1080p/dslr1080p24" as the preset. In the future, what should I set the preset to be?

Thank you for your guidance.

I suspect that the choice of preset will be somewhat influenced by the delivery method of the final output(?)

I make DVDs from the projects. I found that the AVCHD videos have ".mts" extention.

Yep. Most likely it's 1920x1080 at 29.97 fps.

But as long as that video is the first clip on your timeline, the program should match its specs to the project settings automatically. You shouldn't need to do it.

The indicator will be that you will NOT see a yellow orange render line above the clip when you first add it.

Hi Steve,

I am a newbie when it comes to my new camcorder.I can chose between AVCHD and MP4?iframe record format. Under AVCHD record format are the following record mode options: 1060/60i - PH1080, HA1080, HG1080, and HE1080. Under 1080/60p is just 1080/60p. If I pick record format MP4/iframe, the following Record Modes are available: MP4 -1080/MP4 and 720/MP4. Under iframe - iframeMP4. I have no clue what this all means.

I have basically been making regular DVDs to play on DVD players. I gather that I should load videos first into the project. What record format and record mode would you recommend I use? I also want to express my gratitude and my family's gratitude for the fact that with Muvipix's help my grand daughter who was seven in April has a DVD of every month of her life so far. My grandson who was just 6 this month also thanks you. I look forward to finding out what I should do for the future.

Thank you,

Ken

The standard setting to use would be MTS 1080/60i. I assume HE is the highest quality setting, so select that. (The 1080/60p setting would be a better choice if you were shooting sports or lots of action or movement. Otherwise the standard 60i setting is fine.)

Although you can choose pretty much any of those settings and Premiere Elements will be able to match it. Just leave it set to that setting so that everything you shoot has the same specs.

Hi Steve,

I will go with the 1080p setting since the reason I got the camcorder was to video real trains and air shows. I will load the AVCHD video first in a project and then put in any photos with Instant Movie. Thank you again for yor great help. My grandchildren also thank you.

That's why we're here, Ken. Happy moviemaking!

Meantime, it wouldn't hurt to do a test run. Shoot some footage and drop it into a new Premiere Elements project -- just to make sure the workflow works -- before you go shooting hundreds of hours of video.
