They removed export to Blu-Ray?

Postby dberthia » Mon Oct 16, 2017 8:02 pm

Did I read the announcement correctly? They removed the option to burn a Blu-ray disc with a menu? Wow- that was my main use case. I guess they lost me as a customer if that is really true.

Yeah, it's true. I feel your pain. I still use Blu-ray discs myself, but I don't use PrEl to burn them. Instead I export my project and then use DVD Architect Studio to make menus and burn the disc. They're trying to make me feel like a dinosaur. ](*,)

I believe Imgburn allows the creation of ISO for bluray but I need reminded of the steps create the folders in PRE 2018 that can then be used.
Does anyone recall ?
Thanks

I don't know how ImgBurn could create an ISO or a BluRay from non-BluRay files.

So, yes, it's true. You can no longer produce BluRay discs from Premiere Elements. The only solution is to buy a third-party BluRay authoring program like DVD Architect and then send high-def video from your completed edit to it.

Unfortunately, Premiere Elements only outputs HD video in MP4 format -- so even there the program has been sort of crippled in that area.

Premiere Elements 2018 could still export a Blu Ray ISO image under the Custom tab in the Export & Share workflow. The current user guide page for that(dated October 3, 2018) still implies that you can do that. I don't use Premiere Elements, could someone confirm that you cannot do that in PrE 2019 despite what that page says. Or, is it a case that it will export the ISO, but not with a menu?

If you can export a proper Blu Ray file and folder structure, ImgBurn can either create a Blu Ray ISO file or burn a Blu Ray disk directly. In ImgBurn, set the mode to EZ Mode Picker and select the appropriate action: Create Image file from files/folders or Write files/folders to disc. If you can export a Blu Ray ISO, select Write image file to disk.

ImgBurn is not a DVD or Blu Ray authoring program, it cannot create the proper Blu Ray files and folder structure. If Premiere Elements won't do it, you'll need something like DVD Architect that can take an exported h.264 (aka mpeg-4/avc) and add the menus there.

Hi, Bob.

The Help file has not been updated. You can not burn a BluRay disc or ISO from Premiere Elements 2018 or 2019. (Prevailing belief is that it has to do with the price of a BluRay disc licensing fee.)

Although, from the Custom menu, you CAN create a custom output to export BluRay quality MTS files from your project, and these files can be used as source files in a BluRay authoring program like DVD Architect, the files will not include a menu or navigation and will not be packaged as VTS or ISO files.

In short, if you want to create a BluRay disc from a project created by the current versions of Premiere Elements, you'll need to invest in a third-party program like DVD Architect (Hey! We've got a book for that!).

Thanks, Steve. I use Premiere Pro. It's been a lo-o-o-ng time since I've used Premiere Elements and it's changing so much that soon I won't be able to help with it anymore. :( Maybe I'm there already. #-o

I know how you feel, Bob. I last used 3.0.1.
...but I still use DVDAS 4 for DVDs.

Here are instructions I used for creating the AVC and AC3 streams that can be used directly in Architect Studio to create a Blu-ray disc. The instructions refer to PAL 23.976 fps, but you can substitute PAL with NTSC 29.97 fps. This was done in Premiere Elements 15.

Have I mentioned that we ought to make a Sticky out of this for ready reference? This is great work, Robert!
