Flying the Badlands

Talk about the advent of Drone photography and video.

Flying the Badlands

Postby sidd finch » Wed Jul 18, 2018 11:14 pm

More drone flying fun. This time over the badlands in SD. Got a chance to fly the Spark over the Badlands and got some cool shots. I was really keeping my eyes open for any hawks or eagles. But did not see any. There were a bunch of small birds that were interested in seing what the spark was doing.

Nice. :TU:
The bird adds adds to the video rather than distracting from it.

That was fun! I agree with Peru re the birds. How far away from you were the cattle? It looks like a pretty good distance.

Thank you and agreed. I was just paranoid I would get a visit from an eagle. Well maybe more like an attack. And since it was the eagles range I would have been at fault for disturbing them.... yikes.

How far away from you were the cattle?

thank you I was about 100 feet in the air and about 200 feet away. I wanted to make sure I kept my distance. I was told that the sound of the drone could get the horses upset as it sounds similar to a type of bug that bites the horses.

The drone got some really great shots, but I ran through 3 batteries in the blink of an eye and could have spent the day there flying around. The land owner was moving cattle to a different pasture so I asked if I could tag along. I tested the drone while the horses were in the corral to make sure that they were not too skiddish from the sound.

Wow, love the badlands, such awesome footage !! Haven't been there in over 20 years but used to go there once a year in the 90's. That whole area of the country is so beautiful, the Black Hills, Deadwood, Wall Drug, 1880's Town, so much fun !!

It is quite pretty there. I am guessing you went to the Sturgis bike rally?

Wonderful flying and footage. Love seeing the aerial views. I was wondering if the cows were afraid of the spark, but see in your above post that you stayed far enough up in the air. Good idea to test the noise out with the horses first.

Ha, I knew it.

I stay away from Sturgis. Give me the open prairie and some fresh drone batteries and I am good to go. :hyst:

I've been all over that area, including Wall Drug and Deadwood, but never been to Sturgis...
