Out of Focus Video

Postby GriffinR » Tue Nov 07, 2017 11:46 am

Hello,

I took a short video (a few seconds) of my daughter with an old Flip Video Camera over the weekend. Using Premiere Elements 15 I tried to zoom in on her. It just get out of focus and blurry.

Any idea on how I might clean this up?

Thanks

This is because you are doing a digital zoom which enlarges the “zoomed” area and also enlarges the pixels and reduces the image resolution and the image quality. The Flip Camera does not have any Optical zoom. Optical zoom gets up close and personal by using an actual lens adjustment

If you have any interest there are some pretty cool modifications you can do to the Flip to get Optical Zoom. It mostly involves adding a threaded lens ring to the camera so you can screw in a magnified lens.

Sidd,

Thanks for the great explanation. I now know why this has happened. I was hoping I could fix it but at least I have the video.

Take care,

Bob
