Error messages on export and share

Postby sadddletree » Wed Jan 25, 2017 1:24 pm

I am trying to burn an ISO file. I choose Disc, AVCHD, either of the two options, set where I want it to go and what I want it called and click burn. It encodes fine, then comes up the Burn in Progress label above the line and Error below it. It doesn't even try to make the file.

This happens whether it is a big or small file, whether I have a menu on it or not, whether it has been worked on in 13 or not, and even with just a new clip of video that has never touched elements before. It will burn as a DVD SD file.

Help!!

Time to throw another clinker into the mix. If I burn a file with DVD and then try AVCHD, it will burn. But if I try again immediately after (just testing things here) it fails. When I start from scratch with a new video without doing DVD SD first, it fails.

It appears to encode up to about 98% and then stall out. These are one minute videos that should have no size problem. It does it whether the fit to size box is clicked or not.

So you're saying that even if you just drop one short AVCHD clip onto your timeline and you select Export & Share/Disc/AVCHD/ISO, it will still poop out?

Do you have Quicktime 7's components installed?

yes and yes

When I start the program it seems to take a long time initializing?? at the quicktime segment. Maybe I'll uninstall it and reinstall it and see if that makes a difference.

Checking some more. It encodes up to 98%. Then it changes to compiling data and the blue line moves back a tiche but still reads 98%. It sits there for a while and then changes to Error.

Assuming you've got plenty of free hard drive space, I have no idea what's going on, saddletree.

Since you're using plain vanilla AVCHD, it's not likely your source video. Otherwise I'd ask you to provide me with some video so I can try to duplicate your issue.

Meantime, have you tried clearing your preferences by holding down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys on the LEFT SIDE of your keyboard as your program as launching? There's also a manual way to dump your preferences -- but the indicator that this method is working is that you'll get a warning as the program is launching that a program is about to change something on your computer.

That seems to have worked for now. I'll let you know if I hit the issue again. But no, I didn't get a warning on my computer that things were changing.

So, what are preferences? And how do I find them? (I can't find it in the book on 13.)

Maybe one of our more technical Muvipixers can tell you exactly what the file does.

All I know is that it sometimes becomes corrupted and causes buggy behavior. You can reset it using the keyboard shortcuts (or Cmd+Opt+Shift on a Mac) or you can locate and delete the file manually. The program will give you a fresh new one next time it starts up.

Thanks Steve. Seems like there is a lot of buggy behaviour in this program... Somehow, that also totally removed any audio from my computer until I shut it down and restarted it. No idea why...

Nope, didn't fix it. Just waited for a hour long one with a four page menu to burn and it errored out at the same place.

Any other ideas?

It would be great if you could somehow test the project on another machine, just to see if it is an issue with your computer or something in the project.

I only have the rights to put Premier 15 on one computer, so no can do.

This has happened with multiple tests, even fresh video just added into the program. I can't see it as being the project.

I know it's no consolation to say that your experience is not typical (Version 15 runs flawlessly on my Windows 10) and that all of the buggy behavior you're experiencing is something going on on your computer.

But, as Chuck says, the best way to prove that would be to run the same project on another computer.

You CAN have two installations of Premiere Elements, so it's quite all right to install the program on another computer to test your project. In fact, you can install the program on more than two computers -- although you can only have the program activated (logged in under your Adobe ID) on two computers at any given time. I've in fact deactivated (logged out) of the program on one computer so that I could temporarily install the program and use it on another. When I was done, I just logged out of the other computer and logged back in on my original to re-active it.

I bought it as a download from Staples and was specifically told that it could only be installed on one computer. How would I go about getting it on another one?

Re-download it -- or re-use the download you do have.

You can also try downloading the installation file from Adobe and see if it installs with your Staples serial number. Adobe does allow you two installations at any given time -- though there is the possibility that Staples has its own version.

In any event, I'd recommend you get an installable copy and keep it around. Do that with any program you buy as a download. You never know when you many need to re-install the program and it may no longer be available online.
