Pen camcorder

Postby cdeemer » Fri Dec 25, 2009 11:34 pm

Anyone fooled around with pen camcorders, usually marketed as "spy cams." I picked one up for $20 and though obviously limited in quality, found it has uses. An example follows. I see several uses for it in my own work: convenient for POV shots, a lot of which I have planned in a new project; setting up for a different angle during interviews or taping static things (it records for almost 4G worth!); using to shoot layered video where quality is less an issue; carrying with me for convenience and always having a camcorder handy. I have no idea why they are so cheap. I put everything on the web, so it suits many of my purposes fine and gives me new options.

Neat little camera. And as you say handy for just carrying around and if you are putting the video on the web then the quality is fine.

Nice Christmas lights and I loved the mellow music in the background.

Definitely limited but also useful in creative ways. I do a lot of interviews with artists at work. I could set up a couple of these at different spots for master shots to which to cutaway now and again, giving me more visual variety, for example. Or I like having a camera with me at all times for those unexpected moments one always encounters. And you can't beat the price ha ha.

It is a pretty neat little cam, Charles! $20? That's pretty amazing! Even if it is limited use and quality.
