Title Animation Trouble

Postby 818Drones » Sun Oct 23, 2016 9:00 pm

I've been trying to animate a title using this procedure:
1) I double-click the title clip on the timeline, then
2) use the pointer tool to select the title text, then
3) click the "Animation" tab at the top of the Adjustments panel, then
4) activate the "hand grab" tool (for lack of a better term) to drag the desired animation to the title, then
5) watch in frustration as the pointer displays the small "no dice" icon (circle with slash) as I move toward the text.

The title does most certainly not animate after rendering. I'm almost positive I used this technique successfully before. What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks!
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

I just tried to duplicate your steps and one part that I don't understand is part 4. I don't activate the hand grab tool (and I am not sure how you are doing this). Just use the mouse to click, drag and drop the animation on your title, you don't even need to select the text or highlight it. You can only apply one animation to a title to it is applied to the entire title no matter how long or how many rows. Also, make sure you are starting with a simple text title, not a rolling or crawling title.

The title is plain text, and no matter what I do, the program will not animate the title. Is it possible to delete the animation (in case there's an animation attached that I don't know about), or do I need to start over with a completely new title?

Try dropping a new text title on the timeline, the text will read "Add Text". Do not change anything. Double click on the new title on the timeline and drag any animation to the title and see if that works. Try that first.

Sometimes the hand appears, and other times it does not. In any case, no matter how I try to drag the animation to the title, the "no-go" (circle and slash) appears. Also, Adobe Help states that you can accomplish the same thing using the "Apply" button. I have never seen that button become active.

That worked, and thank you very much. This procedure presupposes that you know beforehand how you want to animate your titles. What if you change your mind? Is it possible to remove the unwanted animation and apply a different one to text already in place, or do you have to start over every time?

You can drop another animation on the title and that one will replace the existing one. The current animation used in the title is highlighted with a blue border.

Note also that most Text Animations won't work if your selected text block as more than one line of text. Just an FYI
