Upgrade from PRE 11?

Specific to Premiere Elements version 14

Upgrade from PRE 11?

Postby JBCoons » Fri Oct 02, 2015 2:20 pm

I have a LOT of projects created with PRE 11, so should I upgrade to PRE 14? There are several enhancements in PRE 14 that I would like to use, but... Can I open a PRE 11 project in PRE 14? Can both PRE 11 and PRE 14 exist together on my Win 7 PC? Having both 11 and 14 installed would make my life simpler - if I need to extract video from an 11 project, I could open it in 11. Any comments or suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks!

PrEl v11 and PrEl v14 can co-exist on the same PC without problems.

But a word of caution.

It is always best to finish a project in the version that you started with.

Yes, you can open a PrEl v11 project in PrEl v14 but once you have done that and saved the project you cannot go back and open the PrEl v14 project in PrEl v11.

Thanks for the advice - and yes, I would definitely not "go back" and mix PRE 11 and PRE 14 projects. Here is a very specific example. I video horses at horse shows (these are "Hunter/Jumper" shows - sometimes referred to as "English Riding" - not Western). Very "pricey" horses - many in the 6-figure range, and many of my clients own several horses. The big "year end shows" are held in Pennsylvania and Washington, DC, and my clients might be there with one of their horses. Someone inquires about buying another of their horses that is not at the show and I get an urgent phone call, "John - you videoed Sally on her horse Callero last year at the such-and-show show Iast year I need her round in the Derby uploaded to YouTube ASAP because someone is interested in buying Callero." I go into that PRE 11 project, select the Derby round with the work area bar and upload to YouTube. 2 minutes of video, a few minutes of my time, a grateful client and $40 (and they previously paid me for that video delivered via AVCHD DVD or digital download). Happen 6-8 times during November! Thus I must be able to "access" my old PRE 11 projects. (Also I get calls "I can't find our DVD from a particular show and I need you to burn another copy).

Thanks again for your advice!

Should we assume that V14 will work fine with Mac El Capitan?

Cheers,
Don

As an early adopter, I've been using El Capitan for over a month now -- and Premiere Elements 14 runs just fine on it.
