SAVING TO MP4 FORMAT, RESULTING IN BLACK SCREEN

SAVING TO MP4 FORMAT, RESULTING IN BLACK SCREEN

Postby baleine » Wed Mar 16, 2016 8:27 pm

Saving to MP4 format, resulting in black screen.
I have a project, with 2 different segments. I saved the first segment as usual, .avi format then MP4 format, everything was fine.
When I wanted to save the second segment, I saved to the .avi format, no problem ; then when I saved it in the mp4 format, it copied the first segment of the project , and not the second segment, the video was fine it played well, even though it was not the one I wanted
I deleted the first segment and proceeded to save the second segment to the MP4 format, and all I get is a black video with no video and no sound, and yet when I right click on it and to the properties, I see that there are 117MB for size.
I went into another project, and I did the same thing and I got the black video with no video and no sound, which makes me think that it will be the same problem in all my projects.
As Steve suggested, I did go in the preference and unchecked the option to use hardware acceleration, before I tried it and it made no difference, either way.
I made many videos and never experienced this problem before.
When I save my projects in the mp4 format, I go into ACVHD , then; you tube widescreen SD, I give it a name and location, and it always came out right.
I work in Windows 7, Premiere Element 13
Please help!

Are you using the VLC Media Player (free) to play these MP4s? I wouldn't trust Windows Media Player.

Hi Steve,

Thank you...the reason I use the mp4 for format, is that it is compatible with Pogoplug Cloud that I use to distribute them to my family members. I have no problem playing them, once they are formatted, the problem comes when I want to format!
I am willing to try anything! I am at a standstill!
How do I do what you are suggesting.
Thank you so much!

"I have no problem playing them, once they are formatted, the problem comes when I want to format!"

I'm not sure what that means. You're outputting your MP4 from Premiere Elements, right? I'm asking what happens if you play the file in VLC Media Player.

Are you outputting a section of your timeline that has video? You might have the timeline selected that has no video in it an it might be rendering the black video you mentioned. Maybe if you post a screen shot of what you are attempting to output that might help.

Hi Sidd,
Thank you! this is new for me, I managed to take a picture of the screen, I saved it as a JPEG ( or should I have saved it in a different format?) and how do i show it to you in this context.
Thank you!

Hi Sidd,
This problem is now occurring in other projects and not only the one that i discovered the problem in!
I saved many projects before without any problems, I even checked if there was a video strip that could have had a black title, and would have obscured the whole video, not such thing.
Thanks

When you say black, do you mean that a video plays but there's no audio or video on it or do you mean that, when you open it in VLC Player, it just shows a black screen and doesn't play at all?

Can you post a screen capture of your timeline to this forum?

Hi Steve,
When I play it in both media player and VLC player, the screen is black and the blue line that shows the progress of the video is moving and the seconds are showing progress. There is no video, and no audio!
Thank you!

When you post a reply there is a tab at the bottom of the screen that says upload attachment. Try that.

I don't see it in my e-mail. But you could also just post it to the forum here so we can all see it.
