Thanks Mom. Yes the same settings for a sunset. If you are trying to capture a starry night there are different settings to use.

I didn't know you have vision problems

Because the size of the screen is so small it is hard to see a lot of detail unless you are right up on it. For framing it is fine because I just need to glance at the screen to make sure I am in the ballpark.

Here is the sunrise from this morning. I took 4000 pictures and I used the brightness and contrast effect to reduce the brightness. I need to try to see if I can find a higher spot so I can capture more of the hills in the background.

Very nice, Sidd!

Can you set your camera to automatically take 4000 pictures? I can't imagine you took each one manually.

Good Question.

The camera takes pictures automatically. In this case I have it set to auto so the camera takes pictures approx. once ever half second. I have an external battery connected so the camera does not run out of power.

Do you have any experience how long the battery will last without the external backup using the settings you posted for the time lapse?

I use the Protune setting on so one charge will last about 40-45 minutes. The external battery will make it last for approx. 3 hours.

I am using a Duracell USB battery pak

That looks like one of the lower capacity units. What is that Sidd? Is it the 2600mah unit? Duracell also makes a higher capacity 4000mah usb battery pack for not much more cost. I've seen the 4000mah unit alone for $20 (at Walmart) or with the cable for $29. PNY makes a 7800mah unit for about $30 -- don't know how good those are though.

No that is just battery on Camera and external Duracell plugged in. For time lapses I do not use Wi-Fi. With Wi-Fi I am not sure because in those situations the camera is on pause a lot so it does not drain the battery and Duracell as quickly. With Wi-Fi on I am usually trying to capture birds or animals so it is more of a waiting game.

What is that Sidd? Is it the 2600mah unit?

It is Bob. I selected that battery more for its form factor. For my time lapses I typically have my camera on a 12 foot pole connected to the cameras usb. I wrap the cable to the pole but I do not want to have too much weight in the air.

I tried to film the sunset on Thursday night, using your settings, Sidd. To my surprise after an hour of filming the battery was still full and I had only one picture on the card. :conf:
It turns out, I still have a lot to learn with the GoPro 4. The setup is very different from the Hero 3. Stupid me had it in the wrong mode. I took a Night Picture, not a Night Lapse. :ha: I was wondering why I could not choose <Continuous> as interval. ::C
I figured it out now and tried it yesterday night again. But of course we had bad weather all day Friday. But the camera took 3000 pictures and there was still 1 bar left on the battery usage. I filmed approximately for 1 hour. I have not looked at the pictures yet.

3000 is a decent amount of frames to capture. If you have the protune on don't be surprised if the time lapse looks rather blahhh. I noticed that I had to adjust the brightness and contrast to get more detail out of the shots. The adjustment really helps.

I had Protune on. The pictures don't look blah, but they are really blue. Maybe setting the WB to 3k wasn't the right setting for the conditions in this case. The clouds were really dark gray and the sun gave them a pink glow for a short period. I don't see that at all in the pictures. I have to play around with the color correction some more. The presets in GoPro Studio don't help.
I looked at your other sunrise lapses and noticed that they were more wide angle as the 2 you posted here. Does that mean they were shot as video time lapse with the UltraWide setting?h

The 3K will make it blue. I do mine in time lapse set at 12 MP. I only use GP Studio to create the time lapse AVI. I then import the AVI into Premiere as a 1080P project and center the video for just the cloud area.
