Takeoff at Sunrise

Postby sidd finch » Thu Aug 20, 2015 8:20 pm

I was really inspired by the McKinley Summit Video posted in July (viewtopic.php?f=16&t=13995). I kept thinking the next time I fly I need to see if I can get some video from the window. Well this one is not as majestic and I was on the side of the plane, but the sunrise and weather cooperated to provide a nice setting. Had I been thinking I would have turned off the red blinking light.

A view from the air of Silicon Valley at sunrise.

What a cool little video, Sidd! I'm never able to get a clear, smooth shot out of an airliner window, so I'm especially impressed with how you were able to lock down the camcorder!

Thank you.

I used the camera with a small tabletop tripod. The plane window had a small recess that I could rest two of the tripod legs on. My arm was too tired by the time we were above the clouds. I am not sure but it seemed like the plane cork-screwed to gain elevation.

Such a simple-looking concept but such a nice result. What was the actual amount of time that took place that you compressed to 1:40? ::CLAP:

Thanks Dave.

It was approx. 15 minutes long but to my arm it felt like an hour. :)

Very nice and smooth Sidd! The must have known you were filming and gave you a show of 360 degree takeoff turn :TU:

Good idea!

I love to fly! It's been a long time. Thanks for sharing so I (we) can take off vicariously!

Thanks Paz,

Because I could not see out the window, I was surprised at what a wonderful sunrise the camera captured. I was expecting a pretty overcast day. It would have been cool to see the view from the pilots window.

I've never been in the pilot's seat but my first flight ever was in the co-pilot's seat and it was WONDERFUL. You can see everything but behind you!

If you ever get the chance to go on a small plane you'll love it.

Sidd, I'm thrilled to know my video inspired YOU!! But what's kinda' funny, is when I shot my Flight to Anchorage video http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=13929 I was reminded of this gem YOU had posted a year earlier...http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12204.

So here's some video "math"...if YOUR Sunset Over Minnesota inspired MY Flight to Anchorage, which inspired MY McKinley Summit (may have to change the name of that one now...), which inspired YOUR Takeoff at Sunrise...

I guess you were indirectly your own inspiration! :-D

Either way - i loved your video. I used parts of my PVC stabiliizer to hold the camera steady by bracing it against parts of the plane (and me) on the flight to Anchorage and was pretty happy with the result - you did a great job holding things steady. Also i loved your music choice!

I forgot about that video.. that is too funny. I think the next time I fly I am going to try and see if I can bring a small suction cup mount to stick to the window so I do not have to try and hold the camera. I just need to make sure not to forget it on the plane.... :)
