Goldfinches

Postby sidd finch » Sat Aug 15, 2015 12:14 pm

I was visiting a friend who had a Goldfinch feeder in their back yard. What a perfect excuse to set up a camera and see what the birds are up to. Luckily there were no cats to spoil the mood. :) At about 1:04 you can see the tail feathers of one of the Goldfinches that landed on the camera.

The bird likes your camera! Cool to see that he landed on the GoPro. Very nice exposure. What were the settings?

Sidd,

Did you add a chirping effect or was that the actual chirping? Whatever, the video was very pleasant to watch.

This is quite a coincidence Sidd. Just this afternoon at my mom's place my wife spied a Goldfinch sitting in a bush right outside a window. I actually attempted to get a quick picture with my iPhone, but it kept focusing on the screen instead of the finch. As I was fiddling to fix the focus the bird flew away. Got several great pictures of the screen though! :pull:

Good stuff Sidd! I'd love to know your settings, too.

And as long as you mentioned goldfinch, I'm wondering what kind of a bird is a Sidd Finch? :) You cast no shadow in your avatar...what does THAT mean?! 8-[

Loved the goldfinches, we get lots of those here in Georgia. I've never seen a feeding tube like those before, very cool and they seem to work very well.

Thank you for the very kind words. I am using a GPH4 Black set up in 1080p wide 60fps with ProTune on ISO set at 800 using GoPro color.

The chirping effect was added. It was a bit windy and the camera was just picking up the wind noise. The sound is actual gold finches just not the ones in the shot. Glad you liked it. :)

I would not have noticed them until my friend was explaining the new thistle feeders they bought that really helps the thistle from being eaten by all the doves in the neighborhood. I had to get up early to catch them as I was recording them eating breakfast. We all had a good laugh when we noticed the bird perched on the camera.

The annoying kind that sees many moments in life would "make a great video". I am working on that one. :conf:

I have liked the framing too.

Thank you. I really like the way Protune handles the colors. It is too bad it really sucks up the battery life.

Thank you.

They are really quite colorful. The part where there are two birds fighting was kind of a surprise. I thought the were just flying but in slower motion you can see that one was jealous of eating the other birds food..... Breakfast is an important meal. :-D

Beautiful birds, Sidd!

I don't think we have them here. If so, they are not in full golden color when/if they pass this way.

We do have vireos, but they are much more olive green.
