San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers

Postby sidd finch » Tue Jul 14, 2015 7:11 pm

It was a beautiful day Sunday so I headed over to the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers so I could get some more practice with this brushless gimbal. The place is really beautiful and also inexpensive to check out ($8.00) ..... I spent a very nice afternoon there enjoying all their exotic plants and walking through the building.

In addition to capturing some very beautiful plants and flowers, I had the very good fortune of having Steve Grisetti say yes to provide his voice talents for the video. For me I think his voice is what makes the video special. Thank you Steve!

A great tour! I think the gimbal does a fine job, and you're obviously getting the hang of it. :TU:

Thank you Peru and Dave. I think that having Steve narrate makes the video so much more vibrant. The gimbal really helps to smooth things out but it is a lot harder than I expected. I am working on trying to use it in more sweeping motions. It almost feels like I am doing Taiji with the camera which I am sure must be a sight to behold for anyone observing me when I am filming ... :) Thank you for watching.

Nice job on the video, Sidd. And what a great idea to have Steve narrate your tour through the conservatory. I like how you try to mix up the angle of view in your presentation. :TU:

I very much agree. When I watched it with and without narration there was just a huge difference. It does not show in the video but there were quite a few photographers there snapping pictures. Admission is only $8 and there is such an abundance of beautiful flowers it is amazing. Just make sure you wear shorts. it was 90 degrees and 90% humidity inside. Kind of like some of the Midwest in summer time.

Very smooth shots Sidd! Great narration too! I liked the pace of the movements. Classical music for a classy tour. :TU:

Epilogue:
I sent an e-mail to the Conservatory's PR department to see if they had any interest in posting the video to their website. I was not expecting any reply but I received an e-mail saying that they liked the video and wanted to share it on their social media websites. Might be time to start thinking about adding Steve's name to the Don Lafontaine, Hal Douglass list. :)

Thank you Paz. For such a small camera that gimbal is working out really well. I have discovered that the gimbal works much better if you use it connected to an extension pole. The extension pole puts the weight forward and reduces the "micro-shakes" that are associated with being handheld. Still very much a work in progress but I am having a lot of fun with it.

The script is an amalgamation of various sites that pertain to the Conservatory with a very small sprinkling of my own words included. But needless to say it is Steve's voice that completes the piece.
