GoPro HD LCD BacPac

Postby Gerlinde » Mon Apr 20, 2015 2:57 pm

I'm looking at getting the LCD BacPacI for my camera. know that this came up before. I would to get some opinion from some one who has one. Is it really worth it to spend the money? Is it better to get the touch screen? What else do I need to know? I use the ipad/iphone to frame my shots, but wifi uses up the battery and out in the field not practical.

I've had mine for over a year now and love the BacPac. The touch screen is much quicker than going thru the extensive menu tree. I also tried the WiFi, but drains the battery and a delay. Too many things to hold at the same time. The BacPac was great to review footage. When we went on vacation it was nice to sample what I shot that day.

There is also a plethora of mounts for the GoPro and BacPac connected together.

You will need an older case to fit the camera & BacPac. My BacPac came with several cases.

Thanks for the info Cheryl. I think I have the newer version of the housing ( Hero 3+). Does that mean it will not fit?
How bulky is it with the LCD connected?

The 3+ housing is smaller than the previous versions and will not fit with the BacPac. Look for a bundle that includes the bigger housing. I don't find it bulky in the least. Love the screen option.

If you purchase a backpac and it does not come with the extended back door housing, you can contact GoPro directly and send them a copy of your receipt and the will send you the correct back door free of charge.

That is the one I got Gerlinde. When it first came out they called it something like the Anniversary edition. I should say that you use the front case of the Black 3+ and the older roomier backdoors.

Thanks, Cheryl. I ordered it, I also got a bigger memory card (32gb). I use currently a 8 gb card. It fills up in less then 50 min. of continuous recording.

I received the LCD display yesterday. It came with 3 additional back doors for the housing. They fit without a problem. It is kind of nerve wrecking to switch them out though. I'm always afraid to brake the hinges.
I got my new memory card too. And than I found out that I had already a 32gb card and the 8gb card I was using was not meant for the GoPro #-o It is amazing that it worked. It's only a class 4 card. Oh the joys of getting old and forgetful.... :-8

I am sure you will love the BacPac Gerlinde. Yes a faster SD card is best. I store my back doors for using with no BacPac in one zip bag and using with the BacPac in another with labels. It is faster for me to grab what I need for an outing. Here is a tut on how to swap out the back doors. It is a little frightening to swap out, I am afraid I will break it too. The trick is to have the door at a 90 degree angle. Pop off with the body nearest you and pop on with the body facing out.
