Fields of View Comparison, GoPro4 Black

You can see parts of three counties from the top of this hill, Elmore, Autauga and Montgomery. Sorry about the litter. Kids go parking here with a view of the lights of the 'city' if you can call it that, in the center area. I cleaned up some of it then GACK! thought about it and left it.

All of this is video footage even though you can't see movement. It was cold and the wind was howling, so I deleted the audio.

Frankly, I was surprised at how wide all the fields of view are. I wish there was a way to add a lens that would offer a more zoomed in view than the camera has.

I have come across a way to completely remove the GoPro lens and add a more narrow view. Not about to do that to a camera that's under warranty. I'd prefer one that could be screwed onto a case (there are several of them available) with threads.

Chuck I can see both embeded videos.

Nice comparison Patrice of the GoPro modes. I wouldn't remove the lens. In PrPro there is a video effect to remove the lens distortion.

Had a big Windows 8 update yesterday that messed up a few things, this might be another one.

Paz not sure what kind of fish eye lens you are using but you can use a 25mm to 37mm lens adapter ring and you can use camcorder lenses on your gopro.

They also have 25 to 52mm adapters. You get a better field of view that way

Sidd,

Yes, I understand about step up/down filter rings... but I'm not sure what you mean about camcorder lenses.

This is my normal filming use camcorder: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00739TBTW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Are you suggesting I somehow??? remove the lens from here to put on the GoPro with step up rings?

Perhaps there are individually available, replaceable lenses, such as a slr would use that are especially for camcorders?

I've seen the BackBone adapter. Tempting, tempting, especially as I have quite a few old, non electronic lenses, but then the PilotFly would no longer be viable and again, still under warranty.

I have a set of 52mm closeup rings. Haven't had the time to experiment with them yet.

I bought this frame. It has 37mm internal threads for adding additional lenses - filters.

It is heavier than I expected. Seems to be well made, but the only thing holding the GoPro in the case is a D ring on the side that has 1/4 20 threads about 1/4 inch of the way before it begins to be a round cylinder... thus impossible to screw it in too tight and damage the camera.

On the other hand, the rather coarse threads can begin to unscrew when I take the camera in and out of my pocket several times. I've begun to wrap a pony tail band around the case vertically.

ahh ok very similar. I am just attaching the 25 to 37mm adaptor directly to the lens barrel but same result. Did you try setting the camera to narrow. You might bet more video and less black space. :ha:

If you like the wide setting on the camera, they also make 37mm to 52mm adaptor rings so you can use larger lenses and keep the cameras wide look.
