A Macro Observation at the bird feeder

Postby sidd finch » Fri Jul 18, 2014 9:11 am

Well after a few tries I think I was able to capture some "clear" footage. I ended up having to get close (approx. 7 cm away) but it was fun to capture these very small birds. In case you are placing the music it is "The Three Marches Militaires, Op. 51, D. 733, are pieces in march form written for piano four-hands by Franz Schubert and recorded by Hans Knappertsbusch & Wiener Philharmoniker

Wow!! Macro-mania! The closeup shows him/her swallowing. You captured the details in the feathers perfectly. Seeing it that closeup it looks a little ominous. Well done Sidd. :TU:

Thank you. At approx. 1:29 you can see the Hummer's tongue coming out. Might need to re-edit and slow that part down.

This is wonderful! Love being able to see the individual feathers.

The first time I watched I was a bit disappointed because so much of the bird seemed lost on the right side... then I realized I was watching a cropped screen. MUCH better!

Great job of getting focus set, Sidd.

That was great! The focus was perfect and it was cool seeing the birds in such detail. Well done!

Thank you Paz & Ron. I was surprised at how punctual the birds are to feed. The seem to show up at the bird feeder at pretty regular times. For these shots I just got me camera set up in time for them to land and feed. I ended up using a loaf of bread twisty to tie the camera to the bird feeder to minimize the swaying in the wind.

It could be really effective if you could set up a solid background. Perhaps a sheet of matboard, or cardboard, or perhaps you could string a line and hang a solid white sheet.

If you happen to have a self healing roller cutter mat, (sewing tools) they are sometimes green and that could work as a green screen background.
