GoPro Accessories

Postby momoffduty » Mon Jan 20, 2014 8:57 pm

Got a gift card burning and was looking at the BacPac. How much of a battery drain? Can you turn it off after you set up the shot?

Looking for a cable to tether the cam when mounted on the car. Any suggestions on a hardware store fix? I was thinking of a wire maybe with something that I could unhook and reconnect.

Also may get the floaty back door which comes with a leash tether. I think the leash tether would be handy to have as wrist strap for walking around.

Mom, the backpack has its own battery and will not drain the GoPro battery on the camera. One issue to be aware of is that it seems like even when off the packpac still draws power and discharges.

If the LCD BacPac or LCD Touch BacPac is kept on continuously throughout recording, you will have about half of the normal run time. The HERO3+ cameras do, however, have a setting to have the LCD screen automatically power off 60 seconds after the last button press. This will help minimize the reduction in run time.

Now your LCD BacPac will automatically turn off after 60 seconds of inactivity. This will occur when the camera is recording or in stand-by mode.

For HERO3+ with the LCD BacPac or LCD Touch BacPac, follow these instructions:
1.In the camera setting browse to and select LCD Settings.
2.Select the LCD OFF option.
3.Select either Never, 60, 120, or 300 seconds.
4.Exit Settings

Now your LCD BacPac will automatically turn off after the set number of seconds of inactivity. This will occur when the camera is recording or in stand-by mode.

The HERO3 camera it does not have an option to automatically turn the LCD screen off automatically, but you can just hold the power button on the side of the LCD BacPac for 2-3 seconds to power it off. You can then just power it back on when needed.

Regarding the leash:

For my leash that I made I substituted a heavy duty shoe lace so it would be really easy to store.

Any recommendations?

Instead of the floaty back door was looking at the Bobber:

A handle bar mount:

A chest mount:

This is more fun than shoe shopping. :-D

The Wasabi's are awesome I think they work just as well as the GoPro batteries. I am wanting to get a frame but I am leaning toward the skeleton house just to be a bit more secure. Also....note of warning ... make sure you tether the camera if you are using the suction cup on a moving vehicle. The suction cups are know for coming loose because of vibrations.

I just purchased a GoPro mic adaptor so I can connect my Rode video camera to the GoPro to get better audio.

Thanks for the links Gerlinde. Not sure if I would want the naked mount since the lens would be bare. Maybe if I get brave later on when my version is older.

The grandkids gave me the suction cup mount for Christmas. I did make a short tether for it, about 12 to 15 inches. Thanks for the tut Sidd! My plan is to tether it to the base of the passenger side wiper blade. My first try making it with a longer cable I got a little carried away with the hammer and fastener. :-8 Smashed the fastener clear off the end of the cable. I taped it too to hold in place.

I ended up getting the Wasabi after reading thru the reviews. It was a good deal with the car charger, wall charger and 2 batteries.

The handlebar grip's reviews weren't very good so went with a jaws clamp. Did get the bobber and the LCD bacpac and a few other things. Husband got me a backpack camera bag to fit it all and the T4i. I think he did that because he doesn't want to carry my shoulder bag. It sorta does look like a big ugly purse. ;) All the photos I took of him last summer it is on his shoulder and the family ribbed him about his man bag.

Think I am tapped out at this point. :drunken:

Thanks for the tether tip Sidd. I need to get something like that. For now I'm only attaching it to the inside windshield.
Mom, the open frame came with a little lens cover. That little black blob in the picture :-D . I find the open frame very convenient. It provides easy access to the battery and the usb port. I find it very difficult to open the waterproof case. I have to use a spoon to do it, broke already my finger nails.

(Slightly OT).

Out here almost every man carries a "handbag" in summer for the necessary accoutrements (wallet, phone, cigarettes, lighter etc.) so that the line and hang of the clothes is preserved.

(I am truly surprised at how many people still smoke in the south of Italy - can't speak for other areas of the country).

Gerlinde, I ended up making a real quick DIY tether out of a new sneaker shoelace. It is plenty strong and it will not scratch whatever it comes in contact with.

Are they courier type bags? What about capris? :fg:

Gerlinde, good to know on the lens cap. The cases are hard to open. Changing out the back doors scare me thinking I may break something.

Sidd, good idea on the shoe lace! I did wrap the fasteners with electrical tape.

Mom, GoPro also make a protective lens cap in addition to the protective lens cap cover...(of course it cost $20.00 USD) but what is money....lol

Are they not called European Cary-ons ?

Yeah, Sidd, shoe string is a good option!

Changing out the back doors scare me thinking I may break something.

I have one of those back doors with 2 openings too, what are they for?

Gerlinde, I think that is the skeleton back door to add a little more protection. Sidd the GoPro expert may know. :)
